McLaren Unveils Its Convertible Crown Jewel: The Artura Spider Hybrid, More Power with a Breezy Twist

McLaren Automotive today lifted the curtains off its latest marvel, the Artura Spider, marking a historic first in the company’s lineup with its high-performance hybrid technology elegantly wrapped in a convertible design. This new addition to the Artura family not only amplifies the exhilaration of open-top driving but also brings significant power and performance upgrades, setting a new benchmark in the supercar domain.

The Artura Spider, alongside its coupe counterpart, steps into the 2025 model year with both models now open for orders and expected to start arriving in mid-2024, depending on the region. This new Spider isn’t just about top-down flair; it’s a technological powerhouse with a combined output of 700PS (690bhp) from its advanced 3.0-litre V6 and E-motor powertrain, delivering a staggering power-to-weight ratio of 480PS/tonne.

Weighing in as the lightest convertible supercar in its class, the Artura Spider trumps its rivals by up to 83kg. Its performance credentials are equally impressive, with almost indistinguishable acceleration from the coupe, sprinting from 0-100km/h in just 3.0 seconds. The Spider also boasts quicker gearshifts, enhanced dynamic agility, and a plethora of driver-focused features, all accessible without taking your hands off the wheel.

The Proactive Damping Control suspension system sees a 90% increase in response rates, ensuring a more reactive and engaging drive. Braking power and consistency at high speeds have also been elevated, thanks to new brake cooling ducts and greater thermal management. The Artura Spider offers a distinctive auditory experience, especially with the roof or rear window down, enveloping the driver in a crescendo of sound from its redesigned exhaust.

The retractable hard-top of the Artura Spider is a marvel in itself, operating electrically in a mere 11 seconds and functional at speeds up to 50km/h. The aerothermal efficiency is optimized with four separate ducting systems, enhancing engine cooling and reducing occupant buffeting. This convertible also stands out as McLaren’s most fuel-efficient, boasting a CO2 emission of 108g/km.

Inside, the Artura Spider is fitted with an HD touchscreen infotainment system, supporting Apple CarPlay, and offers options like wireless charging for mobile devices. New safety features like Blindspot Monitoring and Cross-Traffic Detection are now available, alongside standard features like Road Sign Recognition and Lane Departure Warning.

With new exterior paint colors and ‘Stealth’ black badging, the Artura Spider is as stylish as it is powerful. Customers can also benefit from a 5-year vehicle warranty, 6-year battery warranty, and a 10-year body corrosion warranty, along with a 3-year service plan.

In essence, McLaren’s new Artura Spider is not just a convertible; it’s a symphony of speed, luxury, and innovation, all wrapped up in an exhilarating open-air experience. As Michael Leiters, CEO of McLaren Automotive, puts it, “The new Artura is absolutely the complete next-generation supercar, whichever model you choose.”
