Ford Puma is the most British Car of 2023, tops sales chart in UK

In a remarkable display of market leadership, Ford has announced that its Puma model has become the UK’s top-selling vehicle in 2023, with an all-electric version set to launch in 2024. Simultaneously, the Transit Custom van has secured its position as the UK’s top-selling commercial vehicle for the year, offering both plug-in hybrid and all-electric variants.

This year, Ford’s dominance in the UK market is particularly noteworthy, as the company celebrates 58 years of continuous leadership in the commercial vehicle (CV) sector. The Ford Puma has captivated customers with its elegant design, engaging driving experience, and innovative mild-hybrid powertrains. Notably, the Puma’s unique MegaBox feature has been a significant draw, offering exceptional luggage capacity. The ST Line X model, equipped with a 125PS mild-hybrid engine, emerged as a customer favorite, further boosted by the introduction of the new 2023 color, Vivid Ruby.

Looking ahead, Ford’s electrification strategy is gaining momentum. The company plans to unveil an all-electric Puma by the end of the year, part of a broader initiative that includes nine electric models by 2025. The Ford Transit Custom, which has been the UK’s top-selling van for a decade, is already making waves with its E-Transit Custom variant, set for customer deliveries in the latter half of the year.

Ford’s overall commercial vehicle sales have contributed to the brand’s sustained leadership, with the Transit Custom winning numerous accolades, including the prestigious International Van of the Year award. The Ford Ranger, another standout in the company’s lineup, recorded its best sales year in 2023, selling over 18,700 units. The Ranger lineup, expanded with new models like Tremor, Wildtrak X, and Platinum, was named International Pick-up winner last year. Further expanding its portfolio, Ford has announced a plug-in hybrid Ranger, blending electric efficiency with the vehicle’s renowned versatility.

Lisa Brankin, Ford UK’s chair and managing director, expressed delight at the company’s 2023 achievements, noting, “I’m delighted that Puma was both the bestselling vehicle and car in the UK and Transit Custom was bestselling commercial vehicle in 2023. This terrific achievement in 2023 is a great foundation for us to step forward into 2024 and roll out our electrification plan at pace in both the car and van markets.”
