Gurugram: Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. recorded total wholesales of 10,025 units in September 2026, with domestic volumes doubling from a year earlier as the automaker sought to build momentum in the Indian market ahead of the festive season.
The total comprised 3,300 units sold in the domestic market and 6,725 units exported, according to the company.
Domestic wholesales rose 100% year-on-year, compared with 1,652 units in September 2025. Nissan attributed the increase to demand across its expanding SUV portfolio, including the all-new Nissan Tekton, Magnite and Gravite, along with the expansion of its dealer network.
The September performance gives Nissan a stronger domestic base at a time when automakers typically focus heavily on festive-season demand. For Nissan, which has been working to broaden both its product range and retail presence in India, the doubling of monthly volumes represents a notable improvement from last year’s comparatively modest base.
Commenting on the performance, Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, said:
“Our domestic volumes nearly doubled year-on-year in September, validating Nissan’s product-led strategy, the strength and capability of our network, the contribution of our finance and business partners, and the increasing confidence of Indian customers in the Nissan brand. The growing volumes in the domestic market give us a strong foundation to build scale in India. We would also like to acknowledge the continued support of our international dealers, distributors and customers across overseas markets, who are enabling us to deliver a robust export performance. We are confident about the opportunity ahead and remain committed to accelerating our momentum through distinctive products and a stronger network for customers who value the Nissan brand and its products.”
Exports remain a major contributor
Nissan exported 6,725 units during September, meaning overseas shipments continued to account for the larger share of the company’s monthly wholesale volumes.
The automaker supplies vehicles manufactured in India to international markets under its “One Car. One World.” strategy, which aims to offer vehicles built to consistent global quality standards across domestic and export markets.
The export numbers also underline India’s continuing role within Nissan’s wider manufacturing and international distribution operations. In September, roughly two out of every three Nissan units wholesaled from India were destined for overseas markets — a reminder that the company’s Indian operations are looking beyond domestic traffic.
Tekton joins Nissan’s expanding SUV line-up
Nissan said the all-new Tekton forms an important part of its effort to expand its presence across key segments of the Indian passenger vehicle market.
Designed around what the company describes as Nissan’s SUV DNA, the Tekton combines Japanese design influences, technology and everyday practicality. It sits alongside the Magnite and Gravite in Nissan’s expanding portfolio for India.
The company is also increasing its dealer footprint as it seeks to improve access to its vehicles and after-sales services across more markets.
September’s numbers suggest Nissan’s domestic expansion strategy is beginning to deliver higher volumes, while exports continue to provide scale. Sustaining that growth beyond the festive period, however, will depend on how effectively the company can translate its broader product portfolio and expanding network into consistent demand in India’s intensely competitive passenger vehicle market.
