Porsche 911 GT3 RS Review: A Track-Focused Monster That’s (Almost) Street Legal

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is a testament to the brand’s prowess in creating high-performance sports cars, epitomizing German engineering at its finest. Launched in 1999, the 2023 model you’re looking at is the fourth generation variant of this iconic vehicle.

Pricing for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS begins at an ex-showroom price of ₹2.74 crore, with the top model reaching ₹3.50 crore. This model is exclusively petrol-powered. It’s a step above the standard 911, which starts at ₹1.86 crore, offering a more intense and performance-focused driving experience.

A notable feature of this GT3 RS is the optional Weissach package, priced at ₹74.62 lakh. This package reduces the car’s weight by 22 kg, enhancing its performance capabilities. If chosen without the roll cage, it costs ₹65 lakh.

The GT3 RS carries the codename ‘992 GT3’ and was designed by Fabian Schmölz. It is assembled in Germany and maintains the classic Porsche configuration of a rear-engine, rear-wheel drive. Porsche also offers a protective foil for the front of the car for an additional ₹4.88 lakh.

Customization is key with Porsche, and the GT3 RS is no exception. Through the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur program, owners can tailor their GT3 RS to their exact preferences. This includes options for the wings, front lid, and roof, all made from motorsport-tested materials.

The car is equipped with aerobars on the front axle for enhanced downforce. Lighting options include ₹1.25 lakh LED headlights with the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and ₹7.21 lakh matrix LED headlights.

The high-performance theme continues with a carbon fibre roof and bonnet, fins for directional air control, electrically adjustable and heated outside mirrors, high gloss carbon mirror shells, air guides, and side coolers.

The GT3 RS comes with distinct graphics, priced at ₹1.55 lakh. Its dimensions and weight distribution are meticulously designed for optimal performance, featuring a 4.6-meter length, 2-meter width, 1.3-meter height, a 10.5-meter turning circle, 1450 kg kerb weight, 1800 kg gross weight, 345 kg payload capacity, and 100 mm ground clearance.

Wheel options include 21-inch rear and 20-inch front forged Magnesium lightweight wheels, with additional design choices available. The car is fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R radial tubeless tyres, and carbon-fibre ceramic brakes are an optional extra.

The GT3 RS is available in Racing Yellow, among other color options, with the possibility of custom colors and wraps for an added cost. Owners can also opt for custom stickers and remove model badges for a more personalized look.

The car’s performance is enhanced by a lightweight stainless steel sports exhaust system and features like an Exclusive Design Taillight package, a two-part rear wing inspired by Formula 1 DRS, and lightweight glazing for windows.

The front axle lifting system allows the front body to rise by 40 mm, providing additional clearance when needed. The Weissach package includes stabilizers on both axles, with the rear axle featuring carbon fibre components.

Safety is paramount in the GT3 RS, which comes equipped with six airbags, a rear camera, rear park assist, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and other safety features.

The car’s interior is equally impressive, offering options like a 12-speaker Bose surround sound system, custom seatbelt colors, ambient lighting, painted or leather-finished air vents, and a variety of upholstery choices, including a black leather/race tex combination.

Performance-wise, the GT3 RS is powered by a 3996 cc, flat-6 cylinder, naturally aspirated Porsche MA2.75 petrol engine. This engine delivers 517 horsepower and 465 Nm of torque, enabling the car to accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds, reaching a top speed of 296 kmph.

The car also features advanced technology like Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Porsche Stability Management (PSM), and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV Plus), ensuring an unmatched driving experience.

The GT3 RS is a masterclass in automotive engineering, offering an unparalleled blend of performance, customization, and luxury, making it a coveted choice for car enthusiasts and collectors alike.
