Porsche produces 2 millionth vehicle for a Dubai customer

Porsche Celebrates Two-Millionth Vehicle Milestone in Leipzig with Special Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid

The Porsche Leipzig facility in Saxony has reached a significant milestone, with the production of its two-millionth vehicle, a Madeira Gold Metallic Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid. Destined for a customer in Dubai, this landmark car symbolizes the success of the Panamera line, which has been operational at the Leipzig site since 2009.

Gerd Rupp, Chairman of the Management Board at Porsche Leipzig GmbH, highlighted the integral role of the Panamera in the site’s growth and transformation. He noted, “The Leipzig location’s success story is closely linked to the Panamera, representing both growth and change.”

The Leipzig assembly plant, operational since 2002, underwent expansion to become a full-fledged factory, a move that Rupp describes as “groundbreaking.” This expansion, starting in 2013 with the establishment of the first body construction plant and paint shop, enabled the complete manufacturing of models, including the second-generation Panamera from 2016. Rupp emphasized the pivotal role of the factory’s over 4,400 employees in overcoming challenges and driving success.

The Leipzig factory has evolved into an electromobility hub, equipped to flexibly manufacture combustion, electric, and hybrid powertrains on a single line. This transformation underscores Porsche’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The factory’s operational excellence has been recognized with several awards, including the ‘smart factory’ accolade. Focusing on intelligent, digital, and connected processes, the facility also aims for a Zero Impact Factory vision, leaving no ecological footprint. This commitment to sustainability has earned the factory a Platinum rating from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and the Lean & Green Management Award in 2021. Recently, it received the prestigious Factory of the Year award for 2023, a testament to its industry-leading standards and practices.
