Eeco Hits 15 Lakh Sales Milestone as Maruti Suzuki Introduces Star Edition

New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced that cumulative sales of the Eeco have crossed 15 lakh units in India, with the van recording its fastest five-lakh-unit sales milestone during the latest phase of its 16-year journey.

Launched in January 2010 and developed specifically for the Indian market, the Eeco has evolved from a relatively simple people-mover into a broad mobility platform serving families, small businesses, tourism operators, institutions, cargo users and ambulance services.

The pace of sales has accelerated considerably over the years. According to Maruti Suzuki, the Eeco took eight years to register its first five lakh sales. The next five lakh were achieved in less than five years, while the most recent five lakh units were sold in around three-and-a-half years.

That acceleration is noteworthy for a vehicle that has largely avoided chasing fashion trends and instead built its case around something rather less glamorous but often more useful: space and practicality.

To commemorate the 15 lakh sales milestone, Maruti Suzuki has also introduced the Eeco Star Edition, featuring 18 exterior and interior accessories. The special edition also receives body-coloured bumpers as part of an effort to give the utilitarian van a more contemporary appearance.

Commenting on the milestone, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The 15 lakh sales milestone is a celebration of the progress of our customers and the enduring trust they have placed in Eeco. From families experiencing the joy of mobility, to entrepreneurs building their businesses and institutions delivering essential services, Eeco has played many roles in the lives of its customers. Its deep connection with Bharat is reflected in the fact that 65% of Eeco sales came from rural markets in FY 2025-26, while 55% of customers are first-time buyers and over 51% are business owners. For many customers, Eeco is not just a mode of transport; it is an enabler of aspiration and livelihood. We thank our customers for making Eeco a trusted partner in their progress.”

The figures underline the model’s significance outside India’s major metropolitan markets. Maruti Suzuki said 65% of Eeco sales came from rural markets in FY 2025-26, while 55% of customers were first-time buyers and more than 51% were business owners.

The Eeco is currently offered in a 13-variant portfolio, covering five-seater and six-seater passenger versions along with Tour V, Ambulance and Cargo models. Petrol and S-CNG powertrain options are available, allowing the same basic platform to cater to family transport, tourism, goods movement and commercial applications.

Powering the latest Eeco is a 1.2-litre Advanced K-Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine. Maruti Suzuki claims fuel efficiency of 19.71 km/l in petrol form and 26.78 km/kg with S-CNG.

Demand for the CNG version has also risen substantially. S-CNG accounted for 12% of Eeco sales in FY 2019-20, increasing four-fold to 48% in FY 2025-26, according to the company.

The 2026 Eeco has also received a broader set of standard safety equipment. It now comes with six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake-force Distribution, reverse parking sensors, three-point ELR seatbelts for all seats, seatbelt reminders, a speed alert system and side-impact beams.

Comfort and convenience equipment includes a digital instrument cluster, air conditioning, HVAC controls, a dome lamp with battery-saver function and reclining front seats.

The newly introduced Eeco Star Edition builds on that package with 18 accessories aimed at improving the vehicle’s exterior appearance and cabin experience. Maruti Suzuki has not positioned the edition as a mechanical upgrade, with its changes focused primarily on styling and equipment.

For Maruti Suzuki, the 15 lakh milestone highlights the continued relevance of a vehicle positioned in one of the less glamorous corners of India’s passenger-vehicle market. Yet the Eeco’s sustained demand — particularly among rural buyers, entrepreneurs and first-time car owners — shows that practicality can still be a fairly powerful sales pitch, even without dramatic bodywork or oversized touchscreens.
