Bengaluru’s Blast from the Past: Classic Mazda Miata with Wink-Worthy Headlights Hits the Market

In Bengaluru, a slice of automotive nostalgia has hit the market, stirring the hearts of car enthusiasts. A 1999 Mazda Miata (NA), the iconic model with those whimsical pop-up headlights, is up for grabs at INR 15 lakh. This red convertible isn’t just a car; it’s a throwback to a simpler, more stylish era of motoring.

This particular Miata, registered in Maharashtra, is more than just a cute sports car. It’s a mechanical marvel with all the necessary work sorted, save for some attention needed on the hood. But it’s the car’s pop-up headlights that are the real show-stopper, harkening back to a time when the Miata was the talk of the town.

The Mazda MX-5 (NA), the first generation of the MX-5 manufactured from 1989 to 1997, was inspired by the classic British sports cars of the post-war era. It rekindled the world’s love affair with roadsters, filling the void left by legends like the MG B and Triumph Spitfire. With its debut, the MX-5 became the world’s best-selling sports car, sweeping up numerous automotive awards along the way.

Sporting an all-steel body shell with a lightweight aluminum hood, this Miata is as much a joy to look at as it is to drive. Measuring 3,970 mm in length, 1,675 mm in width, and 1,235 mm in height, and weighing a mere 980 kg without options, it’s a compact bundle of joy. With a drag coefficient of Cd=0.38 and an independent double wishbone suspension on all four wheels, this little roadster promises a driving experience that’s as smooth as it is fun.

The car’s demand once outstripped its production, thanks in part to enthusiastic reviews from the press. And it seems the allure of the Miata hasn’t faded. On social media, one user, vaat_pahin_pn_best_nech_jaeen, quipped, “Miata Is Always The Answer. But, not for the Questionable asking price I believe? Unless documents and mechanicals are sorted?”

Known in Japan as the Eunos Roadster, this Miata is a testament to the enduring appeal of Mazda’s design and engineering. For those in Bengaluru with a penchant for classic cars and a taste for nostalgic motoring, this Miata might just be the answer to a long-held dream.
