Guwahati: Montra Electric has expanded its electric commercial vehicle network in Northeast India with the inauguration of a new electric three-wheeler dealership in Guwahati, Assam. The facility, operated by SK Group X (OPC) PVT. LTD., will provide sales, servicing and spare parts support for the company’s Super Auto passenger three-wheeler and Super Cargo electric goods carrier.
Located in Betkuchi, within Guwahati’s Kamrup Metropolitan District, the dealership was inaugurated in the presence of Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director, Montra Electric, and Sapan Kashyap, Managing Director, SK Group X (OPC) PVT. LTD., alongside customers, dealer partners and representatives from the local mobility sector.
The opening represents another step in Montra Electric’s efforts to strengthen its distribution and aftersales network in Northeast India, a region where electric three-wheelers are increasingly becoming part of everyday passenger transportation and last-mile commercial operations.
Assam’s Electric Three-Wheeler Market Gains Momentum
Guwahati’s position as the largest metropolitan centre and commercial gateway to Northeast India makes it an important market for electric commercial vehicle manufacturers seeking to expand their regional presence.
According to registration figures cited by Montra Electric, Assam recorded 5,196 electric vehicle registrations in September 2026, of which 5,136 were electric three-wheelers. The figures suggest that three-wheelers accounted for nearly 99% of the state’s reported EV registrations during the month, highlighting their importance in Assam’s electric mobility market.
Montra Electric said it has developed a regional network of 11 outlets with 35 services over the past two years. The latest dealership is intended to improve accessibility for customers in Guwahati and surrounding markets, particularly commercial operators who depend on vehicle availability, maintenance support and operating efficiency.
For businesses relying on three-wheelers for daily income, the nearest service centre can sometimes matter just as much as what is under the bonnet—or, increasingly, beneath the battery compartment.
Montra Electric Sees Northeast India as Key Growth Market
Speaking at the inauguration, Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director, Montra Electric, highlighted the region’s growing importance to the company’s expansion strategy.
“Northeast India continues to be an important growth market for Montra Electric and Assam is at the centre of this transformation. The state-capital, Guwahati’s strong commercial activity, growing acceptance of electric mobility and rapidly expanding three-wheeler ecosystem make it a natural choice for further expanding and strengthening our network. Through this new dealership, we aim to bring our reliable and performance-oriented electric three-wheelers closer to customers and support the region’s transition towards sustainable mobility.”
The company expects the dealership to serve both passenger transport operators and businesses involved in goods movement, two segments where electric three-wheelers are gaining attention as alternatives to conventional fuel-powered vehicles.
New Dealership to Offer Super Auto and Super Cargo
The Guwahati facility will showcase two electric three-wheelers from Montra Electric’s commercial vehicle portfolio.
The Montra Electric Super Auto is designed for passenger transportation, targeting operators involved in urban and local mobility services. Meanwhile, the Montra Electric Super Cargo caters to commercial goods transportation and last-mile delivery requirements.
Both vehicles are positioned within the company’s broader strategy of addressing different commercial mobility requirements through electric powertrains.
In addition to vehicle sales, the dealership will provide spare parts availability and aftersales support, essential considerations for commercial customers whose vehicles are often operated extensively throughout the working day.
Sapan Kashyap, Managing Director, SK GROUP X (OPC) PVT. LTD., expressed confidence in the partnership and the opportunities presented by Guwahati’s commercial vehicle market.
“We are delighted to partner with Montra Electric and bring its advanced electric three-wheeler portfolio to customers in Guwahati and surrounding markets. The city presents significant opportunities owing to its growing transport and last-mile mobility requirements. With dedicated sales and service support, we are committed to delivering an exceptional ownership experience and helping customers make a confident shift towards electric mobility.”
The inauguration was followed by vehicle deliveries to customers, marking the commencement of operations at the new facility.
Expanding EV Infrastructure Beyond India’s Major Cities
Montra Electric’s expansion in Guwahati reflects the increasing attention electric vehicle manufacturers are paying to regional commercial transport markets beyond India’s largest metropolitan centres.
While electric passenger cars frequently dominate discussions about the country’s transition to cleaner mobility, electric three-wheelers have emerged as an important part of the shift, particularly in passenger transport and short-distance goods movement.
However, wider adoption depends on more than vehicle availability. Reliable servicing, spare parts access, charging arrangements and long-term operating economics remain important factors influencing purchase decisions among commercial vehicle operators.
With its latest dealership, Montra Electric is seeking to strengthen its position in Assam while improving access to electric passenger and cargo transportation solutions across the Northeast.
The development also underlines a broader reality of India’s electric mobility transition: the shift towards cleaner commercial transportation will depend not only on vehicles entering the market, but also on the supporting networks that keep them operating reliably long after they leave the showroom.
