Montra Electric Super Auto FX Offers 150+ km Range, 15-Minute Charging and 200+ Charging Points

Bengaluru: Montra Electric has introduced a 15-minute rapid-charging option for its Super Auto FX electric passenger three-wheeler through a partnership with Exponent Energy, aiming to reduce vehicle downtime and improve earning opportunities for commercial drivers. The facility will initially be available in Bengaluru, Chennai and Delhi NCR, supported by Exponent Energy’s network of more than 200 chargers across the three markets.

The announcement marks another development in India’s electric three-wheeler market, where charging time remains an important consideration for drivers whose daily income depends on keeping their vehicles operational.

According to Montra Electric, the new charging capability is among the fastest offered in the L5M electric passenger three-wheeler category, where rapid-charging solutions are still relatively uncommon.

15-Minute Charging Aims to Reduce Downtime for Drivers

For commercial three-wheeler operators, charging is more than a matter of convenience. Every minute spent at a charging station represents potential time away from passengers and fares.

Montra Electric says its collaboration with Exponent Energy addresses this challenge by enabling the Super Auto FX to recharge in just 15 minutes using compatible rapid-charging infrastructure.

The vehicle also offers a claimed real-world on-road range exceeding 150 kilometres, potentially allowing operators to manage daily journeys with fewer and shorter charging interruptions.

A charging break short enough to resemble a quick tea stop could be particularly valuable in commercial passenger transport, where time off the road rarely contributes to the day’s earnings.

However, the practical benefits will depend on factors including charging infrastructure accessibility, operating conditions and individual vehicle usage.

Montra Electric Extends Its ‘Pehle Aap’ Philosophy

The introduction of rapid charging forms part of Montra Electric’s customer-focused philosophy, Pehle Aap, meaning “You First.”

The company says the approach reflects its emphasis on understanding the working conditions of commercial vehicle operators and developing products that address their everyday challenges.

Another central element of this philosophy is Izzat, or respect, which Montra Electric associates with recognising the time, effort and livelihoods of drivers who depend on their vehicles for income.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Deependra Sharma, CEO, e-3W, Montra Electric (TI Clean Mobility), said:

“Pehle Aap is how every conversation at Montra Electric begins. We start by asking what matters to our customer, and for the people who run a Super Auto every day, and one of the biggest worries has been the time lost waiting to charge. The more the vehicle is on the road, the more customer can earn. A full charge in 15 minutes gives that time back to them. We did not see this as adding one more feature. We saw it as solving a real problem that our customers face, and that is what Pehle Aap means to us.”

The company’s approach highlights an increasingly important consideration in commercial electric mobility: reducing the total time vehicles spend outside revenue-generating operations.

Exponent Energy Expands Partnership Into Passenger Mobility

The rapid-charging arrangement builds on an existing relationship between Montra Electric and Exponent Energy in the electric cargo three-wheeler segment.

With the Super Auto FX, the companies are extending their collaboration into passenger transportation, integrating Exponent Energy’s battery and charging technology with Montra Electric’s vehicle platform.

Arun Vinayak, Founder & CEO, Exponent Energy, said:

“We’re proud to partner with Montra Electric once again. Our work together in electric cargo three-wheelers has shown what’s possible when the vehicle and its energy ecosystem are designed to work together. We’re excited to now take this partnership into passenger mobility with the Super Auto FX. Exponent’s battery technology, city-wide charging network and 2.25 lakh km battery warranty help make electric mobility more practical for drivers. Montra has brought a fresh design sensibility to the auto segment, raising the bar for what an Indian auto can look and feel like. We’re glad to bring our energy technology to it.”

The partnership also reflects a broader industry shift towards developing electric vehicles and their charging ecosystems together, rather than treating infrastructure as an entirely separate consideration.

Montra Electric Super Auto FX: Range, Performance and Features

Beyond its rapid-charging capability, the Super Auto FX offers several features aimed at improving performance, usability and everyday convenience for commercial operators.

The electric passenger three-wheeler delivers a claimed on-road range of more than 150 kilometres, along with 60 Nm of torque.

Montra Electric also claims a segment-leading gradability of 32%, intended to help the vehicle negotiate steep inclines and challenging road conditions.

Hill Hold Assist is included to help prevent unintended backward movement when starting on an incline, while a push-button start system offers an operating experience closer to that of a passenger car.

For everyday convenience, the Super Auto FX comes with interior cabin lighting and a 12V mobile charging socket.

The company also offers a warranty of five years or 2.25 lakh kilometres, subject to applicable terms and conditions, positioning long-term vehicle support as part of its commercial ownership proposition.

Together, these features are intended to address the requirements of drivers who prioritise reliability, operating efficiency and consistent vehicle availability.

More Than 200 Exponent Energy Chargers Across Three Markets

Customers opting for the rapid-charging Super Auto FX will initially be able to access compatible Exponent Energy infrastructure in Bengaluru, Chennai and Delhi NCR.

According to the companies, Exponent Energy’s network currently includes more than 200 chargers across these locations.

The availability of a compatible charging network is particularly important for commercial electric vehicles, as rapid-charging capability alone offers limited practical value without accessible infrastructure.

By combining vehicle technology with an established charging network, Montra Electric and Exponent Energy aim to make electric three-wheeler operations more predictable for drivers.

ONE Pass Introduced Earlier in October

The latest announcement follows another development in the companies’ partnership earlier this month.

Montra Electric, Exponent Energy and Exponent ONE introduced ONE Pass, a fully variable, pay-per-use Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) solution for Montra Electric’s three-wheelers.

The service is designed to align energy expenditure with actual vehicle usage, potentially giving operators greater flexibility in managing their running costs.

The introduction of ONE Pass, followed by the 15-minute rapid-charging option, indicates a broader effort to address two important aspects of electric commercial vehicle ownership: charging convenience and energy expenses.

Both initiatives operate within Montra Electric’s Pehle Aap approach, with an emphasis on solutions intended to support drivers’ everyday business requirements.

Faster Charging Could Influence Electric Three-Wheeler Adoption

India’s commercial three-wheeler segment represents an important market for electric mobility, particularly for urban and suburban passenger transportation.

However, adoption decisions depend on more than vehicle range or initial purchase price. Charging availability, time spent off the road, operating expenses and long-term reliability can all influence whether an electric three-wheeler makes financial sense for an operator.

The introduction of 15-minute rapid charging to the Montra Electric Super Auto FX addresses one of these concerns, although its real-world impact will depend on charging-network coverage, accessibility and performance under daily operating conditions.

As electric commercial vehicles become more closely integrated with dedicated charging networks and flexible energy services, partnerships such as the one between Montra Electric and Exponent Energy could play a meaningful role in shaping the next stage of urban passenger mobility in India.

For drivers, the underlying calculation remains straightforward: less time charging could mean more time carrying passengers, and potentially more opportunities to earn.
