Honda Cars India Sells 7,508 Units in August as Domestic Demand Strengthens

New Delhi: Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) reported total sales of 7,508 units in August 2026, supported by a sharp rise in domestic demand as festive-season buying gathered pace.

The automaker sold 5,385 units in the domestic market, representing a 40% increase from the 3,850 units sold in August 2025. Exports during the month stood at 2,123 units, compared with 2,924 units in the same period last year.

Honda attributed the stronger domestic performance to festive demand beginning with Onam and customer response to the New City and ZR-V.

Commenting on the sales performance, Kunal Behl, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd., said, “August delivered a strong sales performance with 40% growth in domestic sales driven by robust festive demand starting from Onam and good response to New City and ZR-V. We remain optimistic of retaining this momentum and building on the strong customer response across our portfolio.”

The August numbers mark a notable improvement in Honda’s domestic volumes, even as exports declined year-on-year. The contrast puts the Indian market firmly in the driver’s seat for the month — quite literally for an automaker.

In August 2025, Honda Cars India had recorded combined domestic sales and exports of 6,774 units, comprising 3,850 domestic units and 2,924 export units. The August 2026 total of 7,508 units therefore also represents an improvement in overall volumes compared with the year-ago period.

With the festive season gathering momentum, Honda’s ability to sustain domestic demand in the coming months will be closely watched. The August performance offers the company a stronger starting point as automakers enter one of India’s most important periods for passenger-vehicle sales.
