Mumbai: Audi India has outlined an expansion strategy aimed at doubling its share of the country’s luxury-car market, backed by three new product launches, a larger dealership network and additional investment in sales and after-sales operations.
The German luxury carmaker said the product offensive will begin with the new Audi Q3 during the upcoming festive season. It will be followed in 2027 by the next-generation Audi A5 and the Audi Q9, which the company describes as its flagship model.
Audi India currently estimates its share of the Indian luxury-car market at 8% and is seeking to double that figure as it expands its model line-up and geographical footprint.
Balbir Singh Dhillon, Brand Director, Audi India, said, “We are building the next phase of Audi India’s growth on the back of a strong pipeline of new products and continued investments in the market. As we introduce new models across segments, our focus is on offering greater choice and strengthening our presence in India’s luxury car market. We want to double our market share from the current 8% – in the next three years. “
Retail network to grow by more than 25%
Alongside the new models, Audi plans to expand its retail network by more than 25% by the end of 2027, with Tier-II and Tier-III cities playing a larger role in the company’s growth strategy.
The automaker is targeting a network of 40 showrooms by the end of 2027. Existing dealerships are also being upgraded under Audi’s global Progressive Showroom concept, which incorporates a greater emphasis on digital and immersive customer interactions.
That geographical push reflects a broader change in India’s luxury-car business, where premium-car demand is increasingly being sought beyond the traditional metropolitan strongholds. For manufacturers, apparently, the luxury map of India no longer ends at the city limits of Delhi and Mumbai.
Audi to train more than 2,500 sales and service professionals
Audi India is also increasing its focus on the ownership experience, with plans to train more than 2,500 sales and service professionals across its dealership network.
The company said its Audi Approved Plus programme will remain an important part of that strategy by providing a structured channel for pre-owned luxury vehicles.
Repeat customers are another significant part of Audi’s India business. According to the company, one in every three Audi vehicles currently sold in the country is bought by an existing Audi customer — a figure that gives the brand a sizeable pool of buyers to retain even as it looks for new ones.
Luxury-car demand seen growing beyond metros
Audi India expects the domestic luxury-car market to offer significant long-term growth potential, supported by rising affluence, demand for premium mobility and an expanding customer base outside major metropolitan areas.
The company’s announcement puts new products at the centre of that expansion. The upcoming Q3 is expected to strengthen Audi’s presence in the luxury SUV market, while the A5 will broaden its passenger-car portfolio. The Q9, meanwhile, will extend the brand into the upper end of its SUV range when it arrives in 2027.
Audi’s statement refers to a goal of doubling market share over the next three to five years, while Dhillon specifically said the company wants to achieve the target within three years.
For Audi India, the next phase will therefore depend on more than simply putting additional four-ring badges on Indian roads. New models will need to be supported by stronger retail reach, service capacity and customer retention if the company is to translate its product pipeline into a significantly larger share of India’s increasingly competitive luxury-car market.
