New York: Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01, a new all-electric four-door luxury grand tourer that becomes the most powerful and technologically advanced road car in the British brand’s history, producing up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm of torque while targeting an EPA range of up to 400 miles.
The Type 01 made its world premiere in New York, accompanied by digital displays across locations including Times Square, Dumbo and the Lower East Side before making a dynamic arrival at Storied in West Chelsea.
Designed, engineered and built in the UK, the electric GT will be available to order from early 2027, with first customer deliveries expected in the second half of that year. Prices will start at £130,000 (INR 1.66 crore).
Jaguar’s Most Powerful Road Car Yet
At the heart of the Type 01 is a tri-motor electric powertrain equipped with Intelligent Torque Vectoring.
Jaguar says the system produces up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm, making the Type 01 the most powerful Jaguar road car yet.
The GT can accelerate from 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in 3.2 seconds, while the 62-112mph (100-180km/h) run takes 4.0 seconds.
Jaguar says expertise from its double world championship-winning Jaguar TCS Racing Formula E operation contributed to the development of the car’s driving characteristics.
The Type 01 has a 50:50 weight distribution and has been engineered around two distinct dynamic characters, combining high-performance capability with the refinement expected from a large luxury grand tourer.
In other words, Jaguar has not designed its electric flagship simply to win the traffic-light sprint. The aim is to make it cover serious distances as convincingly as it gathers speed.
118kWh Battery and Up to 400 Miles of EPA Range
The Type 01 uses a 118kWh usable battery paired with an 850-volt electrical architecture.
Jaguar anticipates an EPA-rated driving range of up to 400 miles, while its projected WLTP figure extends to as much as 450 miles, or around 720km.
The manufacturer also quotes a sustained highway-speed range of up to 320 miles.
With a 350kW rapid DC charger, Jaguar says the Type 01 can add up to 200 miles, or 321km, of driving range in as little as 13 minutes.
The company says the combination of battery capacity and charging capability would allow customers to complete up to 99.7% of journeys without an interruption for charging.
New Jaguar Electric Architecture
The Type 01 is based on the company’s bespoke Jaguar Electric Architecture, or JEA, created specifically to accommodate the car’s proportions and performance targets.
Jaguar says more than 360 patent applications have resulted from the programme, describing the Type 01 as its most technically advanced vehicle to date.
The architecture allowed designers to give the car a low roofline, short front overhang, long bonnet and extended rear overhang, combined with large 23-inch wheels.
Those proportions are deliberately unusual for an EV, where packaging efficiencies often push designers towards shorter bonnets and cab-forward silhouettes.
Jaguar instead appears determined to make its electric future recognisable from some distance away.
Most Aerodynamic Jaguar Yet
Despite its dramatic proportions, Jaguar says the Type 01 has a drag coefficient of 0.23, making it the most aerodynamic Jaguar produced so far.
Aerodynamic technology includes Active Vanes, a three-stage deployable spoiler and extensive airflow optimisation.
The company says engineers worked alongside designers to preserve the intended body shape while achieving the required aerodynamic efficiency rather than allowing the wind tunnel to dictate the entire design.
Jaguar also points to historic models including the E-type and XJS as part of the Type 01’s design lineage, although the new GT is intended as a modern interpretation rather than a retro recreation.
Four-Seat Interior Gets 24-Inch OLED Display
Inside, a central spine runs along the length of the cabin and divides the interior into four individual occupant spaces.
Brass-inspired anodised aluminium elements run longitudinally through the cabin, emphasising the vehicle’s length and separating the passenger areas.
The Interactive Driver Display uses a single-glass 24-inch OLED screen positioned directly ahead of the driver and operates Jaguar’s new infotainment system.
A second seven-inch smartphone-style touchscreen sits between the driver and front passenger, providing access to frequently used controls.
Jaguar has also developed an Immersive Sound System featuring Sensory Audio and what it describes as an automotive-first, full-width and full-range Panoramic Soundbar.
Exterior customers will be offered both gloss and satin paint finishes, while a Fender Ingot incorporates Jaguar’s familiar leaper emblem.
Rawdon Glover: Type 01 Is the Foundation of Jaguar’s New Era
Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover described the Type 01 as the starting point for the company’s reinvention.
“From its dramatic design to its captivating drive, Type 01 distils the essence of Jaguar into a car for a new era. Jaguars should be objects of desire and culturally relevant – that’s their natural habitat and where Jaguar is returning. Type 01 is the foundation of the brand, one that makes no compromise between design and engineering in our quest to reinvent Jaguar for the 21st century.”
The company says the Type 01 is the first production Jaguar created under its new “exuberant modernist” design philosophy.
Florence Pugh Named Jaguar Brand Ambassador
The New York launch also extended beyond the car itself, with Jaguar announcing actor Florence Pugh as the inaugural brand ambassador for its new era.
Pugh attended the Type 01 premiere at Storied, where British singer-songwriter Sienna Spiro — named Best New Artist at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards — performed an intimate set.
Chef Roze Traoré also created a culinary programme for the event.
The Type 01’s arrival at the venue was driven by António Félix da Costa of the Jaguar TCS Racing team, with the dynamic drive taking place on closed roads on New York’s West Side.
Jaguar described the premiere as its biggest moment since the Jaguar name was established in 1935.
A Critical Car for Jaguar’s Reinvention
The Type 01 arrives carrying considerably more responsibility than the typical new-model launch. It is not simply a new electric Jaguar but the production car intended to establish the design, technology and performance direction for the next phase of the brand.
With four doors, more than 1,000PS, a bespoke electric platform and a price starting at £130,000, Jaguar is positioning the Type 01 firmly in the high-end electric GT market rather than pursuing volume.
Orders are scheduled to open in early 2027, followed by first customer deliveries during the second half of the year. The specifications are ambitious, but the larger question will be whether the Type 01 can translate Jaguar’s dramatic reinvention into something customers desire as strongly as the famous models the company is invoking from its past.
