Electrifying Evolution: The All-New 727 HP BMW M5 Enters a New Era

The BMW M5 is set to make a grand entrance into its seventh generation, marking a significant milestone in its 40-year history. This legendary high-performance sedan is now electrified for the first time, featuring a model-specific M HYBRID system. The new BMW M5 boasts a combined output of 535 kW/727 hp and a peak system torque of 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft). The integration of a high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and an electric motor, paired with an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive all-wheel drive, allows the M5 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds.

A Bold New Look

The new BMW M5 showcases a fresh interpretation of high-performance car design. With prominent wheel arch and side skirt extensions, a sculptural front apron, and model-specific surfacing around the C-pillar, the M5 exudes athleticism. An embossed “M5” logo on the Hofmeister kink and a high proportion of body-colored surfaces create a puristic, dynamic appearance.

Interior Luxury and Versatility

Inside, the new BMW M5 combines luxury with M-specific features, enhancing its multi-layered character. The interior’s ambiance reflects the car’s power, with M-specific displays on the BMW Curved Display and a newly designed, flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel. The cabin includes Merino leather trim, a panoramic glass sunroof, four-zone air conditioning, and a Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System.

M Hybrid System: Performance and Efficiency

The M HYBRID drive system pairs a 4.4-liter V8 engine with an electric motor, integrated into the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. The combustion engine delivers 430 kW/585 hp and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque, while the electric motor contributes an additional 145 kW/197 hp. The high-voltage battery, located low in the car’s underbody, provides an electric range of 67 – 69 kilometers (42 – 43 miles) in the WLTP cycle. The M Hybrid system offers an unmatched combination of power and efficiency.

Advanced Chassis and Dynamic Handling

The new BMW M5 features a sophisticated chassis with a double-wishbone front axle and a five-link rear axle, ensuring optimal feedback and directional accuracy. The adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers and Integral Active Steering enhances both comfort and dynamic prowess. The M xDrive system, with a rear-biased setup, allows for versatile driving experiences, from relaxed electric-only cruises to high-performance track sessions.

Cutting-Edge Assistance Systems

The new BMW M5 includes a wide range of standard and optional driver assistance systems. Features like front collision warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function enhance safety and comfort. The Parking Assistant Professional allows for automated parking and maneuvering, controlled from inside the car or via smartphone.

Global Debut and Market Launch

The world premiere of the new BMW M5 is set for the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England in July 2024, with production starting the same month at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. The global market launch will commence in November 2024, alongside the introduction of the new BMW M5 Touring. Key markets for the high-performance sedan include North America and Europe, with the USA being the largest individual market.

The all-new BMW M5 represents a bold step forward, combining electrifying performance, luxurious design, and cutting-edge technology to set new standards in the high-performance sedan segment.
