Pune: In a moment that can only be described as Vorsprung durch Celebration, Mercedes-Benz India has hit the accelerator on its manufacturing legacy, rolling out its 200,000th locally produced car—an all-electric EQS SUV—from the Chakan plant in Pune. Yes, that’s 200,000 stars made right here in India, and not a single one fell out of alignment.
Presiding over this historic roll-out was Dr. Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, who brought German precision to Indian production flair. He was joined by Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, and Vyankatesh Kulkarni, Head of Operations, proving that when it comes to milestones, Mercedes doesn’t just cross them—it cruises past them in style.

Let’s talk numbers, because Mercedes surely is. The first 50,000 cars took a leisurely 19 years (you know, like a fine wine aging). But then things got spicy—the next 100,000 took just 9 years, and the last 50,000? A blistering 2 years and 3 months. Either Mercedes found a turbocharger for their factory or India’s appetite for luxury hit Ludicrous Mode.
And what better way to celebrate than with an EQS SUV—a whisper-quiet electric beast that screams, “I’m saving the planet, stylishly.” Speaking of which, the Pune facility has been running entirely on green energy since 2022. That’s right, Mercedes-Benz India is now officially cooler than your neighborhood kombucha brewery.
But the carmaker’s love affair with India didn’t begin yesterday. Back in 2015, India became the first country outside Germany to produce a Mercedes-Maybach—because if anyone appreciates luxury with legroom, it’s us. Today, 11 Mercedes models are locally produced, giving India the widest range of ‘Made in India’ luxury cars. Who needs imports when you have Pune?
Mercedes has also plugged into the EV wave with the EQS sedan (2022) and EQS SUV (2024), proving it’s not just about turning heads, but also turning tides on emissions. And let’s not forget the ₹3,000 crore investment, the highest by any luxury automaker in India—with a fresh ₹200 crore pumped in last year alone. Clearly, Mercedes isn’t here to dabble. It’s here to dominate.
With over 100 touchpoints across 50 cities, Mercedes-Benz India isn’t just in your neighborhood—it’s parked in your dreams.
200,000 cars. One country. Zero compromises. And a future that’s electric, elegant, and unmistakably Mercedes.
