Siemens AG leases 1,000 ID.4 vehicles from Volkswagen

In a significant move towards sustainability, Volkswagen Financial Services has partnered with Siemens AG to transform the latter’s fleet by integrating up to 1,000 Volkswagen ID.4 electric vehicles (EVs). This initiative is a part of Siemens’ broader strategy for electrification and sustainability, highlighting the company’s status as a leading industrial entity in Germany.

Armin Villinger, the Chairman of the Management Board of Volkswagen Leasing GmbH, emphasized the crucial role of company and public authority fleets in boosting the e-mobility market. He noted the increasing trend among fleet managers to adopt electric service vehicles, showcasing the practicality and suitability of EVs for everyday use.

Achim Schaible, Chairman and Spokesman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Germany, expressed enthusiasm about continuing Volkswagen’s longstanding collaboration with Siemens in the new era of electromobility, underscoring the significance of fleet customer business for Volkswagen.

Siemens has set ambitious targets for its fleet’s electrification as part of its sustainability agenda, aiming for a CO2-neutral and fully electric fleet by 2030. Stefan Kurz, Head of Global Fleet Management at Siemens, stated that this electrification initiative is not only a commitment to their climate goals but also positions Siemens as a pioneer in sustainable fleet management, aligning with their DEGREE framework. The choice of Volkswagen ID.4 was influenced by its balance of range, charging speed, trunk volume, and price.

The Volkswagen ID.4, Volkswagen’s first all-electric compact SUV, is a product of the company’s electric initiative and is available in China, the USA, and Europe. Built on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB), the ID.4 offers a spacious interior, impressive driving performance, and long ranges of up to 512 or 531 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. Its quick-charging capacity of up to 135 kW makes it suitable for long-distance travel. This collaboration marks a significant step in the automotive industry’s shift towards sustainable mobility.
