Mahindra & Mahindra
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is a major Indian multinational automobile manufacturer headquartered in Mumbai, and part of the Mahindra Group. Founded in 1945 as a steel-trading company, it ventured into vehicles in 1947 when it began assembling licensed Willys Jeeps, eventually expanding into SUVs, commercial vehicles, tractors, two-wheelers and more.
As of 2024, M&M produces over half a million vehicles annually, making it one of India’s largest automakers—and the world’s leading tractor manufacturer by volume . Its SUV lineup includes well-known models such as the Scorpio, XUV700, Thar, Bolero, and XUV3XO, along with a growing range of electric vehicles like the XUV400, XEV 9e and BE6.
The company has a global footprint, with manufacturing and assembly facilities across India, North America, Europe and beyond. It also operates various joint ventures and subsidiaries: notable ones include Automotive North America (maker of the Roxor off‑road vehicle), Automobili Pininfarina in Italy, and a historic stake in South Korea’s SsangYong.
In addition to its automotive business, M&M is a powerhouse in agricultural equipment—its tractor division serves customers in over 40 countries—alongside interests spanning financial services, defence, aerospace and more.
M&M is India’s top revenue-generating SUV manufacturer, and analysts commend its strong prospects in passenger vehicles, tractors, export growth, and expansion into electric vehicles
