Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.’s Farm Equipment Sector (FES), a key player in the Indian agricultural machinery market, reported robust tractor sales for February 2025, driven by favorable crop conditions and increased government support for the farming sector.
According to the company’s latest figures, domestic tractor sales stood at 23,880 units, marking a 19% year-on-year growth compared to 20,121 units in February 2024. The company’s total tractor sales, including exports, reached 25,527 units, up from 21,672 units in the same period last year. Exports alone accounted for 1,647 units, reflecting a 6% growth over February 2024.
Agricultural Growth Fuels Demand
Hemant Sikka, President of Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Sector, attributed the growth to strong crop output and positive agricultural trends.
“We have sold 23,880 tractors in the domestic market in February 2025, recording a 19% increase over last year. A good Kharif harvest, coupled with a promising Rabi crop outlook, has boosted demand. Favorable weather conditions, an increased agricultural credit limit, and continued government initiatives to enhance farmers’ income are key factors driving this momentum. We expect a further rise in demand with the upcoming bumper Rabi harvest,” Sikka stated.
Government Support and Market Trends
The Indian agricultural sector has witnessed policy-driven incentives, including enhanced credit availability and infrastructure support, aimed at strengthening farm mechanization. The rise in rural demand and improved liquidity among farmers have further contributed to the tractor market’s expansion.
Mahindra, a leader in India’s tractor industry, continues to benefit from its diverse product range and strong distribution network, ensuring it remains well-positioned to cater to the growing needs of farmers. With the Rabi season underway and government-backed agricultural reforms in place, industry experts anticipate a sustained increase in tractor sales in the coming months.
