In a move set to skyrocket the fun factor on its flights, Air India has announced the adoption of Thales’ Avant Up In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) system, bringing cutting-edge entertainment to the clouds. This high-flying upgrade will see 51 of its aircraft, including both new and existing Boeing 777s and 787s as well as Airbus A350s, outfitted with the latest in IFE technology.
Thales’ Avant Up is more than just a system; it’s a digital revolution in the sky, boasting Optiq QLED smart displays. These aren’t your average in-flight screens – they offer cinematic 4K HDR picture quality, turning the cabin into a flying movie theater. And with in-screen USB-A and USB-C ports, passengers won’t have to worry about their devices running out of juice mid-movie.
Air India, the flag carrier with the most extensive international network from India, is set to offer an unparalleled inflight experience with this tech treasure. The transformation, scheduled to begin in 2024 and continue through 2025, will retrofit 40 aircraft and introduce the system in 11 new ones.
But it’s not just about screens and chargers. Thales’ Avant Up is like the Swiss Army knife of entertainment systems, featuring an interactive 3D map, immersive route-based programming, and an intuitive user interface. It’s like having a personal entertainment butler at 35,000 feet!
The Optiq displays are not just screens; they are gateways to a mesmerizing visual experience, offering the best viewing quality in the aviation world. And with dual Bluetooth connections and built-in Wi-Fi, it’s easier than ever for passengers to connect their devices and dive into a world of entertainment.
Yannick Assouad, Executive Vice-President of Avionics at Thales, expressed pride in elevating Air India’s inflight experience, aiming to reflect the vibrant culture and colors of India. Meanwhile, Ashish Saraf, Thales’ VP and Country Director for India, highlighted the growing aviation market in India and the opportunity it presents for enhancing passenger experiences.
Air India’s Chief Customer Experience Officer, Rajesh Dogra, echoed these sentiments, underscoring the airline’s commitment to world-class travel experiences. With the AVANT Up system, Air India is not just flying high – it’s turning the sky into an entertainment destination.
