Mahindra Trucks & Buses Posts 19% Sales Growth in July 2026, YTD Volumes Rise 13%

Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.) reported overall sales of 3,009 trucks and buses, including exports, in July 2026, marking a 19% year-on-year increase from 2,534 vehicles in the same month a year earlier.

The figures cover Mahindra’s Trucks & Buses business for commercial vehicles above 3.5 tonnes, comprising the Mahindra Trucks & Buses division (MTBD) and SML Mahindra Limited (SML).

Growth was stronger in passenger vehicles during the month. Mahindra’s combined Trucks & Buses business sold 1,535 passenger vehicles in July, up 23% from 1,253 units a year earlier. Cargo vehicle sales increased 15% to 1,474 units, compared with 1,281 vehicles in July last year.

For the year-to-date period through July, combined sales stood at 12,398 vehicles, an increase of 13% over 10,983 units in the corresponding period.

Passenger vehicle sales during the YTD period climbed 21% to 7,474 units, compared with 6,200 units previously. Cargo vehicle volumes grew a more measured 3% to 4,924 units, from 4,783 units.

Mahindra Trucks & Buses division grows 27%

The Mahindra Trucks & Buses division (MTBD) recorded sales of 1,406 vehicles in July 2026, up 27% from 1,107 units in the year-ago month.

MTBD cargo vehicle sales rose 27% to 1,057 units, while passenger vehicle sales also increased 27% to 349 units.

Its YTD sales reached 5,357 vehicles, representing 16% growth over 4,630 units a year earlier. Cargo volumes increased 11% to 3,398 units, while passenger vehicles rose 24% to 1,959 units.

SML Mahindra sales rise 12%

SML Mahindra Limited, meanwhile, sold 1,603 vehicles during July, up 12% from 1,427 units in the comparable period.

The company’s passenger vehicle business was the main growth driver, rising 21% to 1,186 units from 978 units. Cargo vehicle sales, however, declined 7% to 417 units, against 449 units a year earlier.

SML’s YTD sales increased 11% to 7,041 vehicles, from 6,353 units. Passenger vehicle volumes rose 19% to 5,515 units, while cargo vehicle sales fell 12% to 1,526 units.

In other words, passenger vehicles did much of the heavy lifting in July — an unusual turn of phrase perhaps, but an appropriate one for a truck-and-bus business.

Commenting on the market outlook, Vinod Sahay, Executive Chairman – SML, President – Aerospace, Advanced Technologies, Trucks, Buses & CE, M&M, said:

“Despite some headwinds on cost front, India’s truck and bus industry is witnessing good growth, driven by continued infrastructure investment, rising freight demand, and an accelerating fleet replacement market. With these drivers converging, the sector is well positioned for sustained growth going forward.”

The July numbers point to broad-based expansion across Mahindra’s combined truck and bus operations, although the performance remains uneven between cargo and passenger categories. With infrastructure spending, freight movement and replacement demand continuing to influence commercial vehicle purchases, the pace of growth in the coming months will offer a clearer indication of whether the industry’s current momentum can be sustained.
