New Delhi — Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a packed audience at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Joined by prominent members of the Union Cabinet, international industry stalwarts, and key stakeholders, the PM highlighted India’s meteoric rise in the global mobility sector and unveiled ambitious plans to propel the nation towards a sustainable, technology-driven automotive future.
A Vision for Transformation
In his address, the Prime Minister emphasized India’s progress as the world’s third-largest passenger vehicle market and the fifth-largest economy. “The journey of a developed India is intertwined with the transformation of its mobility sector,” he said, underscoring the importance of the nation’s youthful demographics, expanding middle class, and burgeoning infrastructure.
He celebrated India’s automotive growth rate of 12% over the past year and attributed this success to initiatives like Make in India, Make for the World, and a booming export market. “The 2.5 crore vehicles sold annually in India surpass the population of many countries,” he remarked, reflecting the robust domestic demand.
A Tribute to Icons and Innovation
The PM paid homage to industry pioneers Ratan Tata and Osamu Suzuki, lauding their foundational contributions to India’s automotive industry. He urged industry leaders to draw inspiration from their legacy to innovate and expand.
Highlighting India’s strides in green mobility, he shared groundbreaking statistics on electric vehicle (EV) adoption. “In the last decade, EV sales have surged by 640 times, from a modest 2,600 annually to over 16.8 lakh in 2024,” he stated. He predicted an eightfold increase in EVs by the decade’s end, positioning India as a global leader in sustainable transportation.
Government Initiatives Fuel Growth
The Prime Minister elaborated on policy measures driving this transformation. Key highlights include:
- PM E-Drive Scheme: Subsidies for 28 lakh EVs and procurement of 14,000 electric buses.
- PLI Schemes: Investments worth ₹2.25 lakh crore in manufacturing, creating 1.5 lakh direct jobs.
- Vehicle Scrapping Policy: Encouraging eco-friendly disposal of old vehicles.
Additionally, he unveiled plans for over 70,000 fast EV chargers nationwide and massive expansions under the PM Gatishakti National Master Plan to reduce logistics costs.
Green Goals for a Sustainable Future
As part of India’s climate commitments, the Prime Minister outlined initiatives like the National Electric Mobility Mission, Green Hydrogen Mission, and PM Suryaghar-Free Electricity Scheme. He invited startups and entrepreneurs to explore innovations in energy storage and battery systems, supported by a ₹18,000 crore PLI scheme.
“Our mobility solutions must align with the seven Cs: common, connected, convenient, congestion-free, charged, clean, and cutting-edge,” he said, encapsulating his vision for an inclusive and green future.

Urging global investors to seize opportunities in India’s growing EV ecosystem, the PM concluded with a clarion call: “The future belongs to Asia and India. Be it innovation, technology, or demand, India is the destination for mobility pioneers.”
