Porsche Honors Racing Legend Jo Siffert with Unique 911 GT3 RS Model

Porsche has unveiled a striking homage to the late Swiss racing legend Jo Siffert with the creation of a one-of-a-kind 911 GT3 RS. This exclusive model not only celebrates Siffert’s illustrious career but also marks the 55th anniversary of the historic victory of the Porsche 917 at the Österreichring in 1969.

On August 10, 1969, Siffert, alongside Kurt Ahrens, secured the first international 1,000-kilometre race win for the Porsche 917, a car initially deemed challenging due to its high-speed aerodynamics. Crafted by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur as part of the Sonderwunsch program, this bespoke 911 GT3 RS will be displayed at Swiss Porsche centers in August 2024 before headlining the “Auto Zürich” trade fair from November 7 to 10. A random drawing will determine the lucky buyer of this unique vehicle.

Joseph “Jo” Siffert remains a revered figure in Swiss motorsport, celebrated for his extraordinary talent and charisma. His son Philippe Siffert, who also pursued a racing career, and grandson Jérémy Siffert, were closely involved in the creation of this tribute vehicle. Philippe expressed his excitement: “Witnessing the creation of this Porsche in honor of my father was incredibly moving. The meticulous craftsmanship and historical accuracy are truly remarkable.”

A Modern Homage to a Racing Icon

The 911 GT3 RS Tribute to Jo Siffert features numerous design elements inspired by the original 917. Painted primarily in Pure White with Viper Green accents, it mirrors the livery of the victorious 917 from the Österreichring. The iconic number “29” adorns the doors, bonnet, and rear wing, while vintage sponsor decals, recreated with the help of Bosch and Shell, add to its nostalgic appeal.

Inside, the car exudes a racing atmosphere with a Black and Guards Red Race-Tex interior. Jo Siffert’s autograph and the 917 silhouette are featured prominently, including on the vehicle key and door entry guards.

Remembering the Porsche 917 and Jo Siffert’s Legacy

“We owe the 1969 World Sportscar Championship in large part to Jo Siffert,” recalled former senior race engineer Peter Falk. Siffert’s prowess helped Porsche clinch seven out of ten races that season, solidifying the 917’s legendary status. His untimely death at the age of 35 during a Formula 1 race at Brands Hatch in 1971 left a lasting void in the racing world.

The Revived Sonderwunsch Program

Porsche’s revamped Sonderwunsch program allows for highly individualized car designs, co-created by customers. This program offers bespoke customizations from color and material choices to entirely unique vehicle concepts, catering to both new and older models. Interested customers can consult with Porsche experts in locations like Zuffenhausen, Atlanta, and Los Angeles to bring their personalized visions to life.

With the 911 GT3 RS Tribute to Jo Siffert, Porsche not only honors a racing great but also showcases the limitless possibilities of its Sonderwunsch program, blending historical reverence with cutting-edge design and craftsmanship.
