Lightrock-Led Funding Values Mahindra’s Electric Three-Wheeler Business at ₹10,822 Crore

Mumbai, July 30, 2026: Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited has achieved unicorn status after Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. signed a binding agreement to raise approximately ₹322 crore for its electric last-mile transportation business at a valuation of ₹10,822 crore.

The fresh funding round will be led by sustainable investment firm Lightrock, with participation from existing investors International Finance Corporation and the India-Japan Fund, which is managed by the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Limited.

The investment reflects growing institutional interest in India’s rapidly expanding electric three-wheeler market, where electrification has increased from 12% to 40% over the past two years.

Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, or MLMML, holds an approximately 40% share of the L5 three-wheeler category and describes itself as the country’s largest electric commercial vehicle manufacturer for the fourth consecutive year.

The company reported sixfold growth in electric three-wheeler sales over the past four years. Volumes increased by 85% year-on-year during the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year.

MLMML also crossed sales of 100,000 electric three-wheelers during FY2026, which the company said was a first for an electric commercial vehicle manufacturer in India.

The funding has raised MLMML’s valuation to ₹10,822 crore, taking the business past the commonly recognised $1 billion threshold for unicorn status. In startup terminology, the horn may be mythical, but the valuation certainly is not.

Dr. Anish Shah, Group CEO & MD, Mahindra Group, said, “We welcome Lightrock as a partner marking a pivotal milestone in our last mile mobility initiative, highlighting the transformative potential of our growth gems. Our robust business model continues to draw top-tier investors. With Lightrock joining alongside IFC and IJF, MLMML has now achieved unicorn status in the electric vehicle market. This investment brings us closer to our goal of deploying 1 million EVs on India roads by 2031 and solidifies our leadership in the electric commercial vehicle sector.”

The Mahindra Group is targeting the deployment of one million electric vehicles on Indian roads by 2031, with its last-mile mobility operation expected to play a significant role in reaching that goal.

Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO – Auto & Farm Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, “This investment from Lightrock reinforces Mahindra Last Mile Mobility’s leadership in the EV space. With ~40% market share in the L5 segment, it is at the forefront of a market that has rapidly scaled from 12% to 40% electrification in just two years. We are proud to be India’s No.1 electric commercial vehicle manufacturer for the fourth consecutive year. Crossing 1 lakh EV sales in FY26 and 6 billion e-kilometres cumulatively underscores the trust of our customers and our commitment to driving sustainable, inclusive growth.”

According to the company, its electric vehicles have cumulatively covered six billion kilometres. The figure points to the growing adoption of battery-powered three-wheelers for passenger transport and last-mile cargo operations, where high daily usage can make operating costs particularly important.

Samir Abhyankar, Partner and Head of India at Lightrock, said, “It is a privilege to partner with the Mahindra Group through Lightrock’s investment in Mahindra Last Mile Mobility. The leadership team has done an exceptional job of building the company from the ground up into a market-leader in electric three-wheelers, underpinned by a focused strategy and outstanding execution ability. Lightrock is excited to support the Group as it continues to build sustainable, high-growth businesses capable of meeting the evolving needs of tomorrow’s India.”

Electric three-wheelers have emerged as one of the fastest-electrifying segments of India’s transport market, supported by intensive urban usage, comparatively predictable travel patterns and the potential for lower running costs.

MLMML’s latest funding round therefore represents more than a valuation milestone. It highlights how commercial electric mobility—often operating quietly behind passenger cars in the public conversation—is becoming an increasingly important part of India’s transition towards cleaner and more economical urban transport.
