MINI Goes Full Mad Scientist in India: New Cooper S GP Inspired Edition Launched at ₹58.90 Lakh, Limited to Just 30 Units

MINI India has turned the volume knob all the way up with the launch of the new MINI Cooper S GP Inspired Edition in India, a special edition hatchback inspired by the fastest and most hardcore MINI ever made — the legendary MINI GP. And just to make things even more dramatic, only 30 units of this fiery pocket rocket will be available in the country.

Launched at the newly inaugurated MINI Eminent Cars dealership in Surat, the GP Inspired Edition arrives as a Completely Built-Up Unit (CBU) and carries an ex-showroom price tag of ₹58.90 lakh. That’s enough to buy a decent apartment in some cities — but apartments don’t do 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds while looking like they escaped from a racetrack.

Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO, BMW Group India, said the launch celebrates MINI’s raw racing DNA and gives enthusiasts a chance to own “a true piece of automotive history.” Considering only 30 examples exist, spotting one on Indian roads may soon become rarer than finding an empty parking spot in Mumbai.

The GP Inspired Edition stands out immediately with its exclusive Legend Grey paintwork contrasted by loud Chilli Red highlights on the roof, mirror caps, bonnet stripes and wheel hub caps. MINI clearly wasn’t interested in subtlety here. The aggressive styling package includes JCW spoiler extensions, sporty winglets, a rear diffuser and special “1/30” badging on the C-pillar that constantly reminds owners they’re driving something extremely exclusive.

The special edition rides on sporty JCW alloy wheels and gets multiple customizable LED DRL signatures with animated welcome and goodbye light sequences. Because apparently even the headlights have personality now.

Inside, the cabin continues the race-inspired theme with illuminated GP door sills, special floor mats, JCW sports seats and a redesigned steering wheel with paddle shifters. The dashboard is dominated by MINI’s new 240 mm circular OLED touchscreen, which looks more like a futuristic smartwatch than a traditional infotainment system.

The new MINI Operating System 9 supports touchscreen and voice commands via the “Hey MINI” assistant, while features such as Head-Up Display, Harman Kardon audio system, panoramic glass roof, wireless charging, Digital Key Plus and even a fisheye cabin camera bring plenty of tech into the mix. Yes, your car can now help take selfies too — because modern performance cars apparently understand social media priorities.

Under the hood sits a 2.0-litre MINI TwinPower Turbo petrol engine producing 204 hp and 300 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The result is a top speed of 242 km/h and enough acceleration to make passengers question their life choices during quick overtakes.

MINI has also equipped the GP Inspired Edition with adaptive suspension, JCW sport brakes and several MINI Experience Modes including Go-Kart Mode, Green Mode and Vivid Mode, allowing drivers to switch personalities depending on whether they feel like saving fuel or pretending they’re on the Nürburgring.

On the safety front, the car comes loaded with multiple airbags, Dynamic Stability Control, ABS, Cornering Brake Control, rear-view camera, Parking Assistant and Cruise Control. Comfort Access technology can automatically unlock the car when the key comes within 1.5 metres — which feels appropriate for a car that probably hates waiting for anything.

MINI is offering a two-year unlimited kilometre warranty along with roadside assistance, while service packages can be extended up to 10 years. Flexible ownership and buy-back plans are also available through BMW India Financial Services.

With just 30 units allocated for India, the MINI Cooper S GP Inspired Edition isn’t merely a hatchback — it’s essentially a collector’s item wearing sneakers and carrying a turbocharger.
