Maruti Suzuki Doubles Kharkhoda Capacity, Eyes 10 Lakh Cars a Year

Maruti Suzuki India has officially commenced commercial production at the second plant of its ambitious Kharkhoda manufacturing facility in Haryana, further strengthening the company’s production muscle as India’s appetite for cars — especially SUVs — refuses to slow down.

The newly operational second plant comes with an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh units, taking the total installed capacity at Kharkhoda to 5 lakh vehicles per year. In simpler terms, that’s enough cars to make traffic signals across NCR slightly more emotional.

With this expansion, Maruti Suzuki’s total annual manufacturing capacity across its facilities in Gurugram, Manesar, Kharkhoda (Haryana) and Hansalpur (Gujarat) has now climbed to an impressive 26.5 lakh units annually — making the company even more prepared for India’s ever-growing “SUV le lo” generation.

The Kharkhoda facility is a major part of Maruti Suzuki’s long-term manufacturing roadmap. Once fully operational, the site is expected to become one of Suzuki’s largest four-wheeler manufacturing hubs globally, with a planned annual production capacity of 10 lakh vehicles.

Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki had already hinted at adding 5 lakh units of new capacity during FY2026–27, and the second Kharkhoda plant is a key milestone in achieving that target.

Currently, the facility manufactures the compact SUV Brezza and the mid-size SUV Victoris, indicating Maruti Suzuki’s continued focus on the SUV segment, where Indian buyers now seem more interested in ground clearance than actual roads.

The Kharkhoda project also carries symbolic significance. The foundation stone for the facility was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2022, and in less than four years, the project has rapidly evolved into one of the country’s biggest automotive manufacturing expansions.

For Haryana, this expansion further cements its position as India’s automotive powerhouse. For Maruti Suzuki, it’s another reminder that while rivals are busy launching flashy EV concepts and futuristic buzzwords, the company is quietly building factories large enough to manufacture an entire city’s parking problem every year.
