Nissan India Posts 147% Domestic Wholesale Growth in August, Starts Tekton Exports

Gurugram: Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. reported total wholesales of 9,350 units in August 2026, including 3,426 units sold to the domestic market and 5,924 units exported, as the automaker recorded a 147% year-on-year increase in domestic wholesales and began international shipments of its new Tekton SUV.

The company said domestic performance was supported by continued demand for the Magnite and Gravite, as well as the market response to the all-new Nissan Tekton.

Nissan also dispatched the first batch of more than 1,300 Tekton units to South Africa, Bhutan and Nepal, marking the beginning of the SUV’s export programme under the company’s “One Car. One World.” strategy.

The initial shipments represent the first phase of the Tekton’s international rollout. Nissan said the India-manufactured SUV will gradually be introduced in additional markets across regions as the company seeks to expand the role of its Indian operations within its global manufacturing and export network.

Under the “One Car. One World.” approach, Nissan aims to manufacture globally competitive vehicles in India to consistent company standards for both domestic and overseas customers.

The start of exports to Nepal and Bhutan also expands the Tekton’s presence in neighbouring markets, while the South African shipment gives the SUV an early foothold farther afield. For Nissan’s India operations, the export map is getting noticeably busier.

Commenting on the August performance, Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, said, “The response to the all-new Nissan Tekton has been encouraging and has contributed to a strong domestic wholesale performance in August. At the same time, our export business continues to demonstrate the global competitiveness of vehicles manufactured in India and underlines the strategic importance of our Indian operations within Nissan’s global network. As we expand Tekton’s presence across domestic and international markets, we remain focused on delivering innovative products, a differentiated customer experience and sustainable growth for the business.”

Nissan describes the Tekton as being developed around the company’s SUV DNA, combining Japanese craftsmanship, technology, performance and everyday practicality. The model is expected to play an important role in the automaker’s plans to strengthen its position in both the Indian and export markets.

The August numbers also highlight the increasing importance of exports to Nissan Motor India’s overall volumes. Of the 9,350 units wholesaled during the month, 5,924 units — nearly two-thirds of the total — were destined for international markets.

Nissan Motor India said it intends to build further scale through an expanding product portfolio, improved customer experiences and a broader international footprint, while using India as an increasingly significant manufacturing and export base.

With domestic volumes rising and the Tekton now beginning its overseas journey, Nissan’s August performance reflects a strategy that increasingly links its India business with global markets. The next test will be whether the early demand and expanding export footprint can translate into sustained volume growth in the months ahead.
