Driving Into the Future: Nissan and Mitsubishi Join Forces to Revolutionize Next-Gen Mobility and Energy Solutions

In a landmark collaboration, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and Mitsubishi Corporation are setting the stage to redefine the future of mobility and energy with their recent agreement to explore new business avenues. This pioneering initiative aims to harness the power of electric vehicles (EVs) to address societal challenges and energize communities for a vibrant tomorrow.

Facing the pressing issues of a declining population leading to driver shortages, and dwindling public transportation users, Japan is at a critical juncture. Both Nissan and Mitsubishi Corporation have stepped up, embarking on various projects to navigate these challenges successfully.

Nissan has been at the forefront, introducing mobility services in Namie Town, Fukushima Prefecture, and testing autonomous driving in Yokohama’s Minato Mirai District, aspiring to ensure freedom of movement for all. The company is also innovating in energy management, integrating EV battery storage and renewable energy sources to forge a sustainable future.

On the other hand, Mitsubishi Corporation has been making strides in tackling social and industrial issues. It leverages regional energy resources, aims for carbon neutrality, and strives to rejuvenate communities by addressing their unique challenges. In the mobility domain, it has enhanced transportation solutions with AI-driven on-demand services and autonomous driving demonstrations, showcasing its commitment to technological advancement and societal betterment.

With societal challenges intensifying, including transportation barriers, service access decline, weakened community bonds, and heightened need for disaster preparedness, the collaboration between Nissan and Mitsubishi Corporation couldn’t be timelier. They aim to develop and commercialize next-generation mobility and energy services, starting in Japan, through this partnership.

Makoto Uchida, President and CEO of Nissan, emphasized the company’s dedication to contributing to societal solutions and future-ready cities through innovative mobility services and energy management. Echoing this sentiment, Katsuya Nakanishi, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Corporation, highlighted the mobility sector’s transformation and the company’s commitment to addressing societal challenges through sustainable business models.

This joint venture not only marks a significant step towards tackling pressing societal issues but also paves the way for a future where mobility and energy solutions contribute to the creation of dynamic and resilient communities.
