Historic Partnership Ushers in a New Era for McLaren: CYVN Holdings Acquires Automotive Business in Strategic Deal

On December 10, 2024, a landmark deal was struck in the automotive and advanced mobility sectors as CYVN Holdings LLC, an Abu Dhabi-based mobility operator, secured the acquisition of McLaren’s automotive division from Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company. The historic transaction, which was witnessed by His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, marks a significant moment in McLaren’s journey toward innovation and financial revitalization.

The acquisition agreement will see CYVN take the reins of McLaren’s renowned automotive business, with a non-controlling stake in the company’s racing division, signaling a commitment to the continued excellence of the McLaren brand. The deal, which still requires regulatory approvals, is poised to provide McLaren with the resources necessary to weather recent financial challenges and step boldly into the future, including the development of its first electric supercar.

In a statement, His Excellency Jassem Mohammed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, Chairman of CYVN Holdings, emphasized the significance of the acquisition for both the company and Abu Dhabi’s broader ambitions in the mobility sector: “This acquisition marks a defining moment in CYVN’s vision to build a leading, globally connected mobility platform and underscores Abu Dhabi’s growing role as a global centre of excellence for innovation in advanced mobility.”

Echoing this sentiment, His Excellency Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy of Bahrain, underscored the strategic nature of the deal, which is expected to unleash new growth opportunities for McLaren. “We are confident in CYVN’s ability to build on McLaren’s strong legacy and unlock its full potential,” said Al Khalifa.

The deal not only enhances McLaren’s automotive and racing ambitions but also aligns with CYVN’s goal of shaping a future of sustainable, cutting-edge mobility solutions, leveraging advanced engineering and technology capabilities. It is set to reshape the landscape of high-performance vehicles, laying the groundwork for a new chapter in McLaren’s storied history.
