Toyota Gazoo Racing Announces Sales of Evolved GR Yaris and Special WRC Driver Editions

Tokyo, Japan – Toyota GAZOO Racing (TGR) unveiled today that the much-anticipated sales of the evolved GR Yaris will commence on April 8, available through Toyota’s vehicle dealerships across Japan. In a concurrent announcement, TGR revealed the initiation of purchasing lotteries for two limited edition models: the GR Yaris RZ “High performance・Sébastien Ogier Edition” and the GR Yaris RZ “High performance・Kalle Rovanperä Edition.” Supervised by renowned TGR World Rally Team members Sébastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä respectively, these editions are limited to 100 units each and are now open for application at GR Garage locations nationwide.

Since its debut in 2020, the GR Yaris has been at the forefront of TGR’s participation in various motorsports arenas, embodying the philosophy of “driver-first car-making.” This approach involves rigorous testing and enhancement based on real-world feedback from race drivers, evaluation drivers, and notably, Akio Toyoda—Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman and Master Driver, affectionately known as Morizo. This dedication to performance and reliability has culminated in the evolved GR Yaris, which boasts improvements not just in its power unit, but also in its body, interior, and exterior, elevating the vehicle’s overall performance.

Under the banner “Thanks for breaking it,” TGR has embraced the challenges and learnings from the racetrack to refine the GR Yaris. This includes the introduction of an 8-speed Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission to the lineup, and a cockpit redesign with input from professional race drivers to optimize visibility, operability, and the driving position—ensuring an ideal sports car experience.

The special editions, named after TGR-WRT drivers Sébastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä, were unveiled at the Rallye Monte Carlo, marking their world premiere at the opening round of the 2024 FIA World Rally Championship. Priced at 8,450,000 yen, these models feature unique designs and color schemes: the Ogier Edition in “Matte Stealth Gray” and the Rovanperä Edition in a distinctive three-tone paint, reflecting the individual styles and preferences of the drivers. Additionally, these editions introduce two exclusive 4WD control modes, enhancing the driving experience beyond the standard GR Yaris models.

The evolved GR Yaris and its special editions, along with the GR YARIS Rally1 HYBRID, will be showcased at Tokyo Midtown Canopy Square from March 29 to 31, 2024, offering fans and prospective buyers a closer look at these exceptional vehicles. Starting at 4,480,000 yen (INR 24.69 lakh) for the evolved GR Yaris, these models represent the pinnacle of TGR’s commitment to automotive excellence and the spirit of motorsport.
