VinFast Vrooms into India with a Green Bang: Electric Dreams Now Reality in Tamil Nadu

Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, February 25, 2024 – In a move electrifying the automobile sector, Vietnam’s VinFast has ceremoniously planted its ‘green’ flag in Tamil Nadu, India, laying the foundation for its pioneering integrated electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facility. This eco-friendly venture promises to rev up employment opportunities for over 3,500 locals, steering VinFast’s global journey towards sustainable mobility.

Graced by the esteemed presence of Thiru M. K. Stalin, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, along with other dignitaries, the groundbreaking event marks a significant milestone in VinFast’s green crusade. The facility, sprawling over 400 acres within Tamil Nadu’s SIPCOT industrial estate, is geared up to invest a whopping $500 million over five years and aims to churn out 150,000 vehicles annually.

VinFast’s CEO, Pham Sanh Chau, charged up the ceremony with his vision of a sustainable and green future. “This is not just about building cars; it’s about shaping the future of green transportation in India,” he stated, emphasizing the project’s role in strengthening Vietnam-India economic ties and pioneering zero-emission transportation.

Dr. T. R. B. Rajaa, Minister for Industries, echoed this sentiment, highlighting Tamil Nadu’s commitment to being an automotive innovation hub and its alignment with VinFast’s ambitious green goals. “This project is a testament to our state’s role as a leader in eco-friendly mobility,” he added.

VinFast is not just stopping at manufacturing; plans are on the anvil to establish a robust dealership network across India, ensuring that electric mobility is not just a dream but an accessible reality for many. With this move, VinFast joins the ranks of global EV giants and sets the stage for a future where electric cars are no longer the exception but the norm.

In his speech, VinFast India CEO, Pham Sanh Chau, inspired the audience with the theme “Charge the future together.” He highlighted the importance of transitioning from fossil fuels to electric vehicles and the project’s role in not just expanding VinFast’s global footprint but also in enriching the local economy and talent pool. “We’re not just constructing a facility; we’re building dreams and transforming thoughts into action, as inspired by Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam,” he remarked.

As electric vehicles roll off the Tamil Nadu assembly line, each one will stand as a symbol of VinFast’s commitment to a greener planet and the vibrant partnership between Vietnam and India. In the words of Chau, “We’re not just at the cusp of a change; we’re driving it, ensuring a future free from reliance on crude oil.”
