In a bold move defying the absence of Ford in India, a Ford enthusiast from Chennai has made a statement by privately importing the much-coveted Ford F-150 Raptor. Sporting a dashing blue hue, this lone ranger was recently spotted cruising the local streets, donning a ‘For Registration’ plate – a clear sign of its imported status and an impending official registration with the state RTO.
Currently, this powerhouse on wheels stands alone in India. Priced at a starting figure of INR 65 lakh in the USA, the Raptor’s journey to India, inclusive of all import duties, is estimated to have set back its owner by a whopping INR 1.30 crore.
The Ford F-150 Raptor, a badge synonymous with high-performance, represents the pinnacle of Ford’s pickup line. February 2021 saw the debut of the third-generation Raptor, continuing the legacy with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. A trailblazer in its category, the 2021 Ford Raptor 37 boasts the first-ever 37” factory-fitted tires on a light-duty production truck.
This five-seater beast is not just about its stunning looks; it’s packed with features like a 4×4 with Hi-Lock Transfer Case, Ford Trail Control with Trail 1-Pedal Drive and Trail Turn Assist, and heavy-duty skid plates. Performance is key with sport-tuned shock absorbers and a robust 400 horsepower engine producing 677 Nm of torque. The Raptor promises an average of 8 kmpl, with a 10-Speed SelectShift automatic transmission.
Safety and durability are paramount, as evidenced by its heavy-duty suspension systems and a comprehensive 3-year, 58,000 km bumper-to-bumper warranty. With a maximum payload of 1503 kg and towing capacity of 6350 kg, this Raptor is more than just a showpiece – it’s a statement of power and passion, embodying the spirit of Chennai’s love for Ford’s engineering marvels.
