Coimbatore, January 6, 2024 – In a significant milestone for Indian motorsport, Kerala’s Fabid Ahmer, a celebrated champion in the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC), is poised to make his international debut at the Qatar International Rally. This event is a critical part of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship. Ahmer’s participation marks the first time an Indian rally driver will compete in this prestigious tournament.
Ahmer’s journey to the international stage is backed by JK Tyre Motorsport, renowned for nurturing the next generation of Indian motorsport talent. Teaming up with co-driver Milen George, Ahmer will take the wheel of a Subaru Impreza 4WD Rally car, meticulously prepared by Toolbox Autoworks based in Dubai.
The Qatar International Rally, scheduled for February 1-3, 2024, is the inaugural event of the Middle East Rally Championship season. It promises to be an exhilarating contest, featuring prominent emerging rally drivers from across the globe. The event has been revamped into a three-day challenge, consisting of 13 timed special stages covering a distance of 622.49 km. Last year’s rally saw participation from 23 international teams from over 13 countries, showcasing high-caliber vehicles including Volkswagen Polo GTI, Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo, and Ford Fiesta R5.
Despite this being his international competition debut, Ahmer is resolute in his ambition to demonstrate the capabilities of Indian rally drivers on a global platform. “Representing India in the Middle East Rally Championship is a dream realized,” said Ahmer. “I am deeply honored to be the first Indian driver in this prestigious championship. With JK Tyre’s steadfast support, I feel fully prepared to face the upcoming challenges and compete at an elite level.”
Ahmer, hailing from Palakkad, has earned his spot on the international stage after a string of victories in domestic rallies and championships over the past eight years, highlighted by consistent triumphs in the INRC.
In his quest for international glory, Ahmer is not only supported by JK Tyre but also by the off-road club ‘Dudes of Dunes’, who will be his hospitality partner for the event. This collaboration underscores the growing support and enthusiasm for motorsport in India, as the nation’s talents begin to shine on the world stage.
