Gandhidham, Gujarat: M. R. Shah Group has deployed double-tank liquefied natural gas (LNG) heavy-duty trucks from Blue Energy Motors for transporting non-hazardous chemicals from Kutch in Gujarat to destinations across North India. The move is aimed at improving long-distance freight efficiency while reducing dependence on conventional diesel-powered trucks.
The newly deployed vehicles offer a claimed driving range of up to 2,400 kilometres on a single fill, making them particularly suited to lengthy freight corridors where frequent refuelling stops can affect delivery schedules and vehicle utilisation.
According to Blue Energy Motors, its LNG-powered trucks can also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 30% compared with equivalent diesel-powered vehicles, although actual reductions depend on operating conditions and fuel-related emissions.
Extended Range Takes Centre Stage
For M. R. Shah Group, the decision reflects the growing importance of balancing operational costs, vehicle productivity and environmental considerations in India’s road transport industry.
The double-tank LNG configuration is designed to extend the distance trucks can travel between refuelling stops, potentially improving fleet utilisation on demanding intercity routes.
The Kutch-to-North India freight corridor presents a practical application for such technology, particularly for businesses transporting industrial commodities across multiple states.
In an industry where every kilometre and every hour counts, spending less time at fuel stations is generally a welcome development.
Archit Agrawal, Director, M. R. Shah Group, said:
“In our business, keeping goods moving efficiently across long distances is essential. Blue Energy Motors LNG double-tank trucks offer the range required for our operations from Kutch to North India, while supporting reliable transportation and better fleet utilisation. Adopting this technology is a practical step towards improving operational efficiency while progressively moving towards cleaner freight transportation.”
Blue Energy Motors Expands Its Green Truck Presence
The deployment also strengthens Blue Energy Motors’ presence in India’s heavy-duty commercial vehicle sector, where alternative-fuel technologies are increasingly being explored as transport operators seek to manage emissions without compromising operating range.
Unlike battery-electric trucks, which require charging infrastructure and sufficient downtime for recharging, LNG-powered vehicles use liquefied natural gas stored in insulated tanks. This allows operators to retain a refuelling-based operating model while potentially reducing certain emissions associated with diesel combustion.
However, LNG remains a fossil fuel, and its overall environmental performance depends on factors including methane leakage, fuel production and vehicle efficiency.
Anand Mimani, CEO – EV & New Energy Business, Blue Energy Motors, said:
“We value M. R. Shah Group’s confidence in our LNG-powered heavy-duty trucks and its commitment to exploring cleaner solutions for long-haul transportation. The adoption reflects a forward-looking approach to freight operations, where operational efficiency and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. At Blue Energy Motors, we remain committed to supporting our customers with reliable, high-performance solutions that contribute to lower-emission freight movement and the evolution of India’s logistics sector.”
Over 1,400 Green Trucks Cover 150 Million Kilometres
Blue Energy Motors has been expanding its alternative-fuel commercial vehicle portfolio through LNG-powered and electric heavy-duty trucks designed for freight applications.
According to company figures, more than 1,400 of its green heavy-duty trucks are operating across major freight routes in India.
The manufacturer also reports that its fleet has collectively covered more than 150 million kilometres on Indian roads, resulting in an estimated reduction of over 44,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
Blue Energy Motors compares this estimated reduction with the carbon absorption of approximately 1.8 million trees. The figures are company-reported and have not been independently verified for this report.
These operational milestones reflect the company’s efforts to establish alternative-fuel trucks as commercially viable options for India’s logistics industry.
Cleaner Freight Transport Gains Attention
India’s commercial transport sector faces the challenge of improving freight efficiency while addressing the environmental impact of heavy-duty road transportation.
Long-haul trucking presents particular difficulties because vehicles must cover considerable distances while maintaining predictable delivery times, manageable operating costs and access to suitable refuelling infrastructure.
LNG technology offers one possible transitional solution for freight operators seeking to reduce certain emissions while retaining the range and operational flexibility associated with conventional heavy-duty trucks.
Nevertheless, wider adoption will depend on the availability of LNG refuelling stations, fuel economics, maintenance requirements and the overall cost of vehicle ownership.
For M. R. Shah Group, the introduction of Blue Energy Motors’ double-tank LNG trucks represents an operational shift rather than simply a change of fuel. More broadly, the deployment illustrates how India’s freight industry is beginning to evaluate cleaner propulsion technologies against the practical demands of long-distance logistics.
The real measure of success will be whether these vehicles can deliver consistent efficiency, dependable operations and meaningful emissions reductions over millions of kilometres on India’s highways.
