Chennai: Stellantis has announced a fresh investment of approximately ₹4,000 crore in India as part of its FaSTLAne 2030 strategy, outlining plans to introduce 12 products across its Jeep and Citroën brands over the next three years. The expansion will include seven entirely new products and five major upgrades, with the first launch scheduled for the second quarter of 2027.
The investment, equivalent to approximately €400 million, will increase Stellantis’ cumulative investment in India from more than ₹11,000 crore to approximately ₹15,000 crore by 2030. The company aims to expand its presence across key passenger vehicle segments while strengthening India’s position as a manufacturing, engineering and export hub.
Jeep and Citroën to Introduce 12 Products Across Multiple Segments
Under the new roadmap, Stellantis plans five launches under Jeep and seven under Citroën, covering a range of passenger vehicle categories.
The upcoming portfolio will include SUVs in the B, C and D segments, an MPV, an A-segment car and a premium pickup. While the company has not disclosed individual model names, specifications or pricing, the strategy represents a significant expansion of its Indian product lineup.
Jeep will concentrate on strengthening its position in the premium SUV market, introducing vehicles across additional segments with new powertrain technologies.
Citroën, meanwhile, will focus on mainstream and higher-volume categories, with vehicles developed around affordability, comfort, design and technology.
The two brands will follow distinct positioning strategies, allowing Stellantis to compete across a broader range of price points and customer requirements.
Stellantis India Reports Growth Ahead of Expansion
The announcement follows an improvement in the company’s recent business performance.
According to Stellantis, its India business recorded 35% growth in the second quarter of calendar year 2026 compared with the preceding quarter. Citroën’s retail sales also increased by 68% during the same period compared with the second quarter of 2025.
However, the company has not provided absolute sales volumes alongside these growth percentages.
Tianshu Xin, Chief Operating Officer, Stellantis Asia-Pacific Region, emphasised the strategic importance of India in the group’s international operations.
“India is a long-term commitment for us, not just a volume chase.”
He indicated that Stellantis intends to give its India operations greater decision-making responsibility under a region-led business model, supported by local manufacturing, engineering, software development and sourcing capabilities.
Shailesh Hazela, CEO & Managing Director, Stellantis India, highlighted the company’s intention to translate its investments into a more substantial market presence.
“Our commitment to India will be measured by what we put on the road.”
The expansion will also involve deeper localisation and improvements to the company’s sales and after-sales infrastructure.
Petrol, Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Electric Vehicles Planned
Rather than committing exclusively to electric vehicles, Stellantis will pursue a multi-energy strategy for its upcoming Indian portfolio.
The company plans to introduce vehicles using efficient internal combustion engines, hybrid systems, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology and battery-electric vehicle (BEV) powertrains.
The selection of technologies will depend on customer preferences, affordability, regulatory requirements, charging infrastructure and the economics of individual vehicle segments.
This approach recognises that India’s transition towards electrified mobility is unlikely to follow a single technological route.
For consumers, it could eventually mean more powertrain options across different vehicle categories, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach to electrification.
Localisation Target Set at 90%
Stellantis has identified localisation as a central component of its expansion strategy, targeting localisation levels of 90% across both Jeep and Citroën.
The company intends to make greater use of India’s domestic supplier network, manufacturing infrastructure and engineering capabilities wherever technically and commercially feasible.
Stellantis currently operates three manufacturing facilities in India, located at Ranjangaon in Maharashtra and Thiruvallur and Hosur in Tamil Nadu.
Its Indian operations also include engineering and software capabilities in Bengaluru, an information and communications technology presence in Hyderabad and an expanding supplier ecosystem.
The planned investment builds upon more than ₹11,000 crore already committed to Indian manufacturing, engineering, software, sourcing and export operations.
Higher localisation could help the company manage production costs, improve supply-chain efficiency and strengthen the competitiveness of future vehicles.
Dealership Expansion to Focus on Smaller Indian Cities
Alongside the product expansion, Stellantis plans to strengthen its combined Jeep and Citroën sales and service network.
The company will focus on increasing dealership reach, improving service capacity, strengthening spare-parts availability and enhancing the ownership experience.
Its Stellantis Brand House dealership format will support expansion into commercially viable Tier-2, Tier-3 and Tier-4 markets.
A wider retail and service footprint could be particularly important as Citroën attempts to reach a larger customer base beyond India’s major metropolitan areas.
However, Stellantis has not announced a specific target for the number of new dealerships or service facilities.
India to Play Bigger Role in Stellantis’ Global Exports
Stellantis is also looking to strengthen India’s position as an export base within its Asia-Pacific operations.
The company currently exports vehicles and components from India to approximately 50 countries. Around 95% of the engines and gearboxes produced at its Hosur facility are exported, highlighting the plant’s importance to its international manufacturing network.
Under FaSTLAne 2030, Stellantis intends to develop vehicles in India for both domestic sales and international markets.
The strategy could expand the role of Indian engineering and production facilities within the group’s global operations while creating additional opportunities for domestic suppliers.
First New Product Expected in Q2 2027
Stellantis has confirmed that the first product under its new roadmap is scheduled to arrive in the second quarter of 2027.
Further information about individual vehicles, powertrains, pricing and launch schedules will be released closer to their respective introductions.
The company’s ambitions are substantial, but the Indian passenger vehicle market remains intensely competitive, particularly in the SUV segments where several established manufacturers already have extensive product portfolios and distribution networks.
For Stellantis, the success of FaSTLAne 2030 will depend not simply on introducing 12 products, but on making them competitive in pricing, technology, availability and long-term ownership experience.
With fresh investment, a broader product strategy and an expanded role for Indian manufacturing, the company is preparing for a more aggressive phase of growth. Whether those plans translate into a significantly stronger market position will become clearer as the first vehicles arrive in 2027.
