Hyundai India Posts Best-Ever August Domestic Sales at 54,396 Units, Up 23.6%

Gurugram: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) recorded its highest-ever domestic sales for an August month, selling 54,396 vehicles in August 2026, an increase of 23.6% year-on-year, as demand in the Indian market continued to support the automaker’s growth momentum.

Including exports, Hyundai Motor India sold 65,796 units during the month, representing an 8.8% increase compared with August 2025. The total comprised 54,396 vehicles sold in the domestic market and 11,400 units exported.

The August performance comes as Hyundai continues to report higher domestic volumes in the current financial year. During the April-August period of FY2027, the company’s domestic sales increased 12.6% year-on-year.

Commenting on August 2026 sales results, Tarun Garg, MD & CEO – HMIL, said, “We continue to sustain strong growth momentum in FY2027, with domestic sales growing by 12.6% YoY during the April-August period. Our August domestic sales of 54,396 units (+23.6% YoY), the highest-ever figure for any August month, reflect the popularity of Hyundai’s versatile product portfolio. While total exports in August were impacted by logistical constraints arising from the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the broader geo-political environment during the month, we remain optimistic that export demand will continue to be strong in the coming months as the geo-political situation improves.”

The figures underline a noticeable contrast between Hyundai’s domestic and overseas businesses during the month. Indian sales provided the stronger push, while exports faced logistical challenges linked to the conflict in West Asia and the wider geopolitical environment.

That meant Hyundai’s home market did much of the heavy lifting in August — fortunately for the company, Indian buyers appeared willing to oblige.

Despite the export-related constraints, Hyundai ended the month with overall sales growth of 8.8%, while its considerably stronger domestic performance helped reinforce the company’s positive trajectory in FY2027.

The coming months will show whether Hyundai can sustain its double-digit domestic growth while export operations recover from geopolitical and logistical disruptions. For now, the record August performance offers another indication that demand in India remains an important pillar of the company’s sales momentum.
