VinFast VF 6 Earth Brings Five-Star Safety, Blind Spot Detection and 360-Degree Camera to Entry-Level EV

VinFast’s VF 6 electric SUV has secured a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating for adult and child occupant protection, while its entry-level Earth variant offers seven airbags, electronic stability control, blind spot detection and a 360-degree camera as standard equipment. The safety package positions the VF 6 Earth as an option for buyers seeking a family electric SUV priced below Rs. 20 lakh without having to upgrade to a more expensive variant for essential driving assistance features.

The Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer has equipped the VF 6 Earth with a combination of active and passive safety systems intended to address everyday driving challenges, from sudden braking on highways to navigating congested Indian streets and slippery roads during the monsoon.

Among its standard features is electronic stability control (ESC), which can selectively apply braking force to individual wheels when the vehicle begins to lose stability. The technology is designed to help drivers maintain directional control during sudden manoeuvres, particularly on wet roads or sharp bends.

The SUV also features an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA). While ABS helps prevent wheels from locking during emergency braking, EBD distributes braking force according to driving conditions. Brake assist provides additional braking pressure when it detects an emergency stop.

Together, these systems are intended to improve vehicle control during demanding situations, although their effectiveness remains subject to road conditions, tyre grip and driver response.

Safety Features Designed for Indian Driving Conditions

The VF 6 Earth includes a traction control system (TCS), which helps minimise excessive wheelspin during acceleration on slippery or loose surfaces. The feature can be particularly relevant during India’s monsoon season, when roads can quickly transition from dry tarmac to waterlogged stretches.

Hill-start assist is another standard feature, designed to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards when starting on an incline. The system briefly maintains braking pressure as the driver moves from the brake pedal to the accelerator.

For urban commuters, the SUV offers an Auto Hold function that keeps the vehicle stationary after stopping without requiring the driver to continuously press the brake pedal.

It is a relatively small convenience, but anyone who has spent an hour negotiating Bengaluru or Mumbai traffic will understand its appeal.

Beyond these electronic driving aids, the VF 6’s five-star Bharat NCAP rating for both adult and child occupant protection provides an additional safety credential. Seven airbags are fitted as standard, extending the vehicle’s passive safety equipment across the range.

Blind Spot Detection and 360-Degree Camera Come as Standard

The VF 6 Earth also addresses visibility challenges commonly encountered in crowded urban environments.

Its blind spot detection system alerts drivers to vehicles travelling in areas that may not be clearly visible through the mirrors, helping improve awareness before changing lanes.

This can be particularly useful on Indian roads, where motorcycles, scooters and other vehicles frequently travel close to larger cars.

A 360-degree camera provides a surrounding view of the vehicle during parking manoeuvres, while parking sensors alert drivers to nearby obstacles.

These features are intended to make manoeuvring through narrow streets and confined parking spaces easier, especially for newer drivers who may still be developing confidence in judging vehicle dimensions.

Measuring 4,241 mm in length, the VF 6 is relatively compact for urban use. However, its 2,730 mm wheelbase allows the electric SUV to accommodate five occupants, combining manageable exterior dimensions with a family-oriented cabin layout.

Significantly, VinFast has included these parking and driver assistance features in the entry-level Earth variant rather than reserving them exclusively for higher trims.

VinFast Adds Complimentary Charging and Long-Term Warranty Coverage

Alongside its safety equipment, VinFast is offering ownership benefits intended to address some of the practical concerns associated with electric vehicle adoption.

The company provides complimentary charging at eligible V-Green charging stations until March 31, 2029, potentially reducing running costs for owners who have access to the supported charging network.

Free maintenance is available for three years or 36,000 km, whichever comes first.

The VF 6 also carries a vehicle warranty of seven years or 160,000 km, while its battery is covered for ten years or 200,000 km. Both warranties are subject to whichever limit is reached first.

The combination of complimentary charging, maintenance support and extended warranty coverage is part of VinFast’s effort to make electric vehicle ownership more predictable for Indian consumers.

Entry-Level Electric SUVs Face Growing Safety Expectations

Safety equipment is becoming an increasingly important consideration for Indian car buyers, particularly as electric vehicles compete with established petrol and diesel models in the mass-market SUV segment.

Features such as electronic stability control, traction control and multiple airbags are particularly relevant because they can assist drivers in situations where reaction time and vehicle stability are critical.

Similarly, blind spot monitoring and surround-view cameras offer practical benefits in crowded cities, where visibility and parking space are often limited.

However, electronic safety systems cannot eliminate the risks associated with speeding, poor road surfaces or distracted driving. Their purpose is to support drivers, not replace attentive driving.

For VinFast, offering these technologies on the VF 6 Earth rather than limiting them to more expensive variants could help distinguish the model in India’s increasingly competitive electric SUV market.

Ultimately, the significance of the VF 6 Earth’s safety package lies less in the number of electronic acronyms on its specification sheet and more in making useful safety technology available to entry-level buyers. As India’s electric vehicle market develops, the availability of comprehensive safety equipment across all variants could become an increasingly important factor in purchasing decisions.
