Thane: Tesla has expanded its charging footprint in India with the opening of a new Destination Charging station at Lake Shore Thane, while also launching its Refer and Earn programme for customers in the country.
The new charging facility, located in the UB parking area of Lake Shore Thane, is equipped with four AC Destination Chargers rated at 11 kW each. Tesla said the chargers offer 99.95% uptime and are intended to allow owners to recharge their vehicles while shopping or dining at the property.
The commissioning of the Thane facility takes Tesla’s charging network in India to seven stations, collectively equipped with 20 Superchargers and 24 Destination Chargers.
Alongside the charging station opening, Tesla is holding its first Tesla Experience in Thane at the Lake Shore Thane Courtyard from August 12 to August 19.
Visitors will be able to explore the Model Y and Model Y L through guided vehicle walkarounds and product experiences. Test drives can also be booked by registering through Tesla’s website.
The week-long showcase gives prospective customers a closer look at Tesla’s expanding India portfolio — and, conveniently, somewhere nearby to plug one in.
Tesla Launches Refer and Earn Programme
Tesla has also introduced its Refer and Earn programme in India, allowing existing owners to refer friends and family who are considering purchasing a Tesla.
Under the programme, an existing Tesla owner will earn ₹11,000 towards Supercharging or the purchase of a new Tesla for each referred customer who completes delivery of a vehicle.
The first 10 customers who order a new Tesla using a referral link will receive ₹22,000 off the purchase price, according to the company.
The referral initiative adds another customer-acquisition channel for Tesla as it works to build its owner community and expand its presence in India’s developing electric-vehicle market.
2026 Tesla Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive
Tesla said the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive, which was recently updated with Grok AI, offers up to 2,138 litres of cargo space and seating for five passengers.
The electric SUV can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and has a claimed driving range of up to 500 km under the WLTP testing cycle.
It is priced at ₹50,89,000. Tesla is also offering financing with monthly EMIs starting at ₹39,990, with a down payment as low as ₹6,00,000, subject to applicable terms and conditions.
Model Y L Offers Three-Row Layout
Tesla’s Model Y L is positioned as a larger all-wheel-drive family SUV and comes with a three-row, six-seat configuration.
The vehicle offers up to 2,539 litres of cargo capacity, along with additional headroom and legroom compared with more compact configurations.
Tesla claims a driving range of up to 681 km WLTP, while acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 5.0 seconds.
Prices for the Model Y L start at ₹61,99,000, with monthly EMIs beginning at ₹49,990 and a minimum down payment of ₹6,50,000, according to the company.
Tesla’s latest charging-site addition highlights the less glamorous but increasingly important side of India’s EV expansion: infrastructure. As electric vehicles compete not just on acceleration and technology but also on everyday usability, the availability of reliable charging at shopping, dining and other frequently visited destinations is likely to play an increasingly significant role in convincing more buyers to make the switch.
