Kia India Announces Up to 75% Assured Buyback Value for ICE Cars, 70% for EVs

New Delhi: Kia India has announced the expansion of its Assured Buyback Programme across its internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid and electric vehicle portfolio, offering eligible customers a guaranteed future vehicle value of up to 75% for ICE models and up to 70% for electric vehicles after three years. The initiative aims to reduce uncertainty over vehicle depreciation while making it easier for customers to exchange or upgrade their cars.

The expanded programme allows buyers to determine an assured residual value for their vehicles at the time of purchase, subject to eligibility and contractual conditions. With resale value increasingly influencing purchasing decisions, Kia is attempting to make one of the less predictable aspects of car ownership considerably more predictable.

Up to 75% Assured Residual Value for ICE Cars

Under the revised programme, eligible customers purchasing ICE models can receive an assured residual value of up to 75% after three years, while electric vehicle buyers can qualify for up to 70% over the same period.

These figures represent the maximum assured values offered under the scheme rather than a universal guarantee for every vehicle. The final applicable buyback value depends on the selected plan, eligibility requirements and programme terms.

By establishing the future value at the beginning of the ownership period, Kia aims to help customers assess long-term ownership costs and plan their next vehicle purchase with greater financial clarity.

Covers Kia Sonet, Syros, Seltos, Carens, Sorento and More

The expanded Assured Buyback Programme covers Kia India’s portfolio, including the Sonet, Syros, New Seltos, Carens, Carens Clavis and Sorento.

According to the company, the initiative extends across applicable petrol, diesel, CNG, hybrid and electric powertrain options, enabling customers to select plans based on their vehicle and ownership preferences.

The wider coverage reflects Kia’s attempt to offer a consistent ownership proposition across different vehicle categories, rather than restricting assured buyback benefits to a handful of models.

Flexible Ownership Plans of Up to Five Years

Kia has introduced multiple tenure and mileage combinations to accommodate different driving requirements.

For ICE models, customers can choose ownership periods of three, four or five years. Electric vehicle buyers can select three- or four-year plans.

The programme also provides three annual mileage options:

  • 10,000 km per year
  • 15,000 km per year
  • 20,000 km per year

Depending on the selected tenure and mileage allowance, the programme can cover vehicle usage of up to 100,000 km over the ownership period.

This flexibility allows customers to align their assured buyback plans with expected driving distances, whether their vehicle is used primarily for city commuting or more frequent long-distance journeys.

However, the company has not specified the residual value percentages applicable to every tenure, model and mileage combination in its announcement.

Kia India Says Resale Value Is Becoming a Key Purchase Consideration

Commenting on the expansion, Atul Sood, Senior Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Kia India, said:

“A vehicle purchase is a long-term decision, and customers increasingly seek greater certainty around future value and upgrade convenience. By expanding our Assured Buyback Programme with industry best resale value of upto 75% on ICE and upto 70% for EV in 3 years, we are enabling eligible customers to understand their vehicle’s assured residual value at the outset and plan their ownership journey with greater confidence. The initiative reflects our commitment to building enduring customer relationships and delivering consistent value from the first purchase through to the next exchange or upgrade.”

The announcement comes as automakers place greater emphasis on ownership costs beyond the initial purchase price. Vehicle depreciation, maintenance expenses and ease of resale are important considerations for buyers, particularly those planning to replace their cars after a few years.

For electric vehicles, the availability of an assured future value could also help address some of the uncertainty surrounding resale prices in a market where battery technology and vehicle specifications continue to evolve.

How the Kia Assured Buyback Programme Works

The programme will be available through participating authorised Kia dealerships across India.

Eligible customers can enrol in the relevant assured buyback plan when purchasing their vehicle. The future residual value is established under the selected agreement, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.

At the end of the agreed ownership period, customers can avail the assured buyback value in accordance with the programme agreement, potentially simplifying the process of exchanging or upgrading their vehicle.

Importantly, Kia India has clarified that the programme is independently administered by the relevant programme partner.

Enrolment, eligibility, vehicle valuation, settlement and associated obligations are governed by the agreement between the customer and the programme partner. Kia India facilitates access to the scheme through its participating authorised dealer network.

Customers should therefore review the agreement carefully, including the applicable mileage allowance, eligibility criteria and conditions governing the final buyback settlement.

Why Assured Buyback Programmes Matter

An assured buyback arrangement can offer customers greater predictability in an automotive market where resale values vary according to vehicle condition, mileage, demand and changing consumer preferences.

For buyers who replace their vehicles every three to five years, knowing an agreed future value in advance can make ownership planning and vehicle upgrades more straightforward.

Such schemes may also become increasingly relevant as electric and hybrid vehicles gain prominence, creating new considerations around long-term depreciation and resale demand.

With its expanded programme, Kia India is positioning assured residual value as part of the overall ownership experience rather than merely an incentive at the point of sale.

Ultimately, the programme’s value to consumers will depend on the actual buyback terms, qualifying conditions and how the assured amount compares with prevailing resale prices. Nevertheless, the expansion highlights a broader shift in India’s automotive market: manufacturers are increasingly competing not only on what a car offers when it is new, but also on what it may be worth when its owner is ready to move on.
