Visakhapatnam: Yokohama India has launched its Geolandar X-CV tyre range for crossover and premium SUVs, extending technology originally developed for luxury SUVs with wheel sizes above 18 inches to vehicles using wheels from 16 inches onwards.
The company plans to offer the Geolandar X-CV in 32 sizes spanning 16-inch to 20-inch wheels, describing it as its most extensive dedicated tyre pattern in India for crossover and premium SUVs.
The expansion comes as crossover SUVs occupy an increasingly important position in the Indian passenger vehicle market, while buyers seek tyres capable of balancing road comfort, durability, wet-weather performance and high-speed stability.
Focus on Wet Grip, Comfort and Durability
According to Yokohama India, the Geolandar X-CV uses its latest compound and tread technologies to balance safety, comfort, durability and efficiency.
The tyre incorporates Micro Silica technology, intended to improve grip on wet roads while reducing rolling resistance. It also uses an asymmetric tread design with specially engineered inner and outer shoulder blocks to improve steering response, wet-road traction and stability during high-speed cornering.
Four wide circumferential grooves are designed to channel water away from the contact area, helping improve wet braking and resistance to hydroplaning.
Yokohama’s proprietary 2D–3D Combination Sipes are aimed at improving wet traction while encouraging more even tyre wear. Meanwhile, 5-Pitch Variation Technology has been incorporated to reduce tread-pattern noise and improve cabin refinement — useful when the SUV is quiet enough for passengers to notice the tyres in the first place.
Reinforced Construction for Indian Roads
The Geolandar X-CV features a reinforced two-ply sidewall construction and Full Nylon Cover, which Yokohama says are intended to improve durability and high-speed stability under challenging road conditions.
The range is also EV compatible. Yokohama said its construction has been engineered to accommodate the higher vehicle weight and instant torque characteristics typically associated with electric vehicles while maintaining tyre life, durability and driving refinement.
The launch forms part of Yokohama India’s wider effort to expand its premium tyre portfolio through manufacturing, localisation and product development.
The Geolandar X-CV was unveiled in the presence of Nitin Mantri, Member of the Board and Senior Managing Officer & Co-COO of Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd., and Chairman of Yokohama India Pvt. Ltd.; Anil Gupta, Officer, Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd., COO of ATC Tires Pvt. Ltd., and Vice Chairman of Yokohama India Pvt. Ltd.; and Harinder Singh, Managing Director and CEO, Yokohama India Pvt. Ltd.
Nitin Mantri said:
“India continues to be one of Yokohama’s most strategic markets globally. Our continued investments in manufacturing, technology and premium product development reflects our confidence in the country’s long-term growth. The launch of Geolandar X-CV reinforces our commitment to bringing globally proven innovations closer to Indian customers while strengthening Yokohama India’s position as one of the country’s leading premium tyre manufacturers.”
Harinder Singh said:
“The crossover SUV segment is growing rapidly and the road infrastructure improving, now motorists are seeking a balance of safety, comfort, quietness and long-lasting performance. With the Geolandar X-CV we’re bringing flagship premium tyre technology to delight a wider base of crossover SUV owners.”
Availability From August 2026
The Geolandar X-CV will be available from August 2026 through the Yokohama Club Network (YCN) and select authorised Yokohama India dealers.
The range will cover specifications aimed at premium, mid-size and compact crossover SUVs. Yokohama India is also offering a no-cost EMI option on the newly launched tyre range as an introductory offer.
The company said its manufacturing operations in India continue to focus on sustainability through greater localisation, energy-efficient production processes and responsible use of resources.
GEOLANDAR is Yokohama’s global tyre brand for SUVs and pickup vehicles. The portfolio spans several applications, ranging from highway use to more specialised off-road driving.
Alongside the Geolandar X-CV, the range includes the mud-terrain Geolandar M/T, extreme all-terrain Geolandar X-A/T, all-terrain Geolandar A/T, and the Geolandar SUV highway tyre for mid-size and large SUVs.
By widening the X-CV line to include 16-inch wheels, Yokohama is effectively taking technology once concentrated at the upper end of the SUV market and pushing it into a much broader set of vehicles. As India’s crossover market expands and electrification adds new demands on tyre construction, that shift could make specialised SUV tyres an increasingly important part of the ownership equation rather than an afterthought.
