Mahindra Auto clocks 58,021 SUV sales and 99,636 total vehicle sales in May 2026, registering 20% YoY growth
Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra has continued its strong momentum in the Indian automotive market, reporting total vehicle sales of 99,636 units in May 2026, marking a healthy 20% year-on-year growth. The company came tantalizingly close to the six-figure monthly sales milestone, missing the 1-lakh mark by just 364 vehicles—proof that Mahindra’s showrooms remain as busy as ever.
The company’s SUV portfolio once again emerged as the primary growth driver. Mahindra sold 58,021 utility vehicles in the domestic market, up 11% compared to 52,431 units sold in May last year. Including exports, total SUV sales reached 59,573 units, underlining the continued popularity of models such as the Scorpio-N, Thar, XUV700, Bolero and XUV 3XO.
Commercial vehicle sales also delivered a strong performance. Domestic sales in the segment stood at 24,079 units, representing a 19% year-on-year increase. The company’s light commercial vehicle range posted particularly impressive numbers, with the sub-2-tonne category growing by 35%, while the 2-tonne to 3.5-tonne segment recorded 16% growth.
One of the standout performers during the month was Mahindra’s three-wheeler business. Sales surged by a remarkable 89%, reaching 12,536 units, highlighting growing demand in the last-mile mobility and electric three-wheeler space.
Exports provided another reason to celebrate. Mahindra shipped 5,000 vehicles overseas during May 2026, registering a robust 37% increase over the same month last year. Year-to-date exports have climbed 42%, reflecting strengthening global demand for Mahindra’s products.
Commenting on the performance, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said that the company achieved SUV sales of 58,021 units with 11% growth, while total vehicle sales stood at 99,636 units, up 20% year-on-year. He added that demand across the portfolio remains strong, although supply chain challenges linked to manpower shortages at select suppliers continue to constrain production.
The strong sales figures indicate that Mahindra’s SUV-led growth story remains firmly on track. With demand continuing to outpace supply in several models and exports gaining momentum, the automaker appears well-positioned to maintain its upward trajectory. If current trends continue, crossing the coveted 1-lakh monthly sales mark may simply be a matter of time—and perhaps just a few more SUVs finding their way out of the factory gates.
