Long-term collaboration to enhance high-performance audio systems in electrified luxury vehicles
Gaydon, UK, July 1, 2024: JLR has announced an extension of its long-standing partnership with British audio pioneer Meridian, aiming to deliver cutting-edge in-car audio systems for the next generation of electric vehicles. This collaboration, which began in 2010, will now see Meridian’s specialists involved earlier in the design process of new JLR models, ensuring optimal audio experiences in the company’s evolving lineup of electric vehicles.
Since its inception, the partnership has equipped all JLR brands, including Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, and Jaguar, with premium audio solutions from Meridian. The strengthened collaboration is set to enhance JLR’s modern luxury electrification strategy, with a focus on innovative audio design that complements the serene environment of electric vehicle cabins.
Callum Hubbard, Technical Specialist in Vehicle Audio Technology at JLR, emphasized the synergy between the two companies: “Our collaborative partnership with Meridian allows us to deliver fantastic sounding audio systems while being sympathetic to the design language of the vehicles. The flagship of Meridian’s in-car audio technology can be found in Range Rover models, featuring the Meridian Signature Sound System. This 1600W system, with 35 speakers including 20W speakers in each of the four main headrests, provides an immersive sound experience. The system is designed to work seamlessly with JLR’s MLA-Flex body architecture, delivering cabin calmness and a first-class passenger experience.
Additionally, the collaboration has led to innovations like the third-generation Active Noise Cancellation system, which monitors and counters wheel vibrations, tyre noise, and engine sounds to enhance cabin serenity. This technology ensures that occupants arrive at their destinations feeling refreshed, even after long journeys.
Another notable innovation is the Range Rover Tailgate Event Suite, featuring four additional rear speakers that provide perfect sound quality when socializing with the tailgate deployed.
As JLR and Meridian continue their partnership, the focus remains on pioneering world-first audio technologies that will debut in future JLR vehicles, pushing the boundaries of in-car audio performance in the era of electrification.
