Maruti Suzuki Hits Record High in May 2026, Sells Nearly 2.43 Lakh Vehicles in a Month

New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India Limited has raced past another milestone, posting its highest-ever monthly sales volume in May 2026. The country’s largest carmaker sold a total of 242,688 vehicles, surpassing all previous monthly records and reinforcing its dominance in the Indian automotive market.

The company also achieved its best-ever domestic sales performance, with 193,535 units sold in India during the month. Exports remained strong at 41,914 units, while sales to other OEMs stood at 7,239 units.

If Indian car buyers were voting with their wallets in May, Maruti Suzuki appears to have won by a landslide.

SUVs Continue Their Winning Streak

The biggest growth driver came from Maruti Suzuki’s utility vehicle portfolio, which includes popular models such as the Brezza, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, XL6, Invicto, Jimny and e Vitara. The segment registered sales of 79,267 units, compared to 54,899 units in May 2025, reflecting the continuing shift of Indian consumers towards SUVs and multi-purpose vehicles.

The strong performance highlights how Maruti’s SUV strategy is now delivering results across multiple price points, from the compact Fronx to the premium Grand Vitara.

Hatchbacks Still Have Plenty of Life Left

While SUVs continue grabbing headlines, Maruti’s traditional strengths in the hatchback and compact car segments remain intact.

The Alto and S-Presso duo delivered 16,275 units, more than doubling their May 2025 tally of 6,776 units.

Meanwhile, the company’s core passenger car lineup comprising the Baleno, Swift, Dzire, WagonR, Celerio, Ignis and Ciaz generated an impressive 81,555 units, up from 61,960 units a year ago.

Together, passenger car sales reached 97,830 units, underscoring that India’s love affair with practical and fuel-efficient hatchbacks is far from over.

Exports Add Extra Momentum

Maruti Suzuki’s export business also continued its upward trajectory. The company shipped 41,914 vehicles overseas in May 2026, compared to 31,219 units during the same month last year.

The export growth further strengthens Maruti Suzuki’s position as one of India’s largest passenger vehicle exporters and provides an additional pillar of growth beyond the domestic market.

FY27 Starts on a Strong Note

For the April-May period of FY2026-27, Maruti Suzuki has already sold 482,334 vehicles, significantly higher than the 359,868 units recorded during the corresponding period of FY2025-26.

Domestic passenger vehicle sales during the first two months of the fiscal stood at 378,041 units, while exports reached 81,968 units.

Record Month Reflects Broad-Based Demand

The record-breaking May performance indicates that demand remains healthy across multiple segments, from entry-level hatchbacks and compact sedans to premium SUVs and utility vehicles. With refreshed products, expanding exports and a growing SUV portfolio, Maruti Suzuki appears to have started FY2026-27 in top gear.

And while traffic jams across Indian cities may not be celebrating, Maruti Suzuki certainly has reason to honk in happiness after delivering its biggest monthly sales performance ever.
