New Delhi: Honda Cars India has put together an impressive performance in May 2026, recording a 31% year-on-year increase in total sales. The company sold 7,853 units during the month, comprising 5,111 domestic sales and 2,742 export units, demonstrating that the Japanese automaker’s momentum in India continues to gather pace.
To put the growth into perspective, Honda had recorded 3,950 domestic sales and 2,035 export units in May 2025. The latest figures reflect healthy gains in both domestic and international markets, helping the brand strengthen its position in the premium passenger vehicle segment.
The strong performance comes at a time when the industry has been closely watching consumer sentiment amid fluctuating fuel prices. However, Honda appears to have successfully navigated those concerns, thanks to a combination of fresh product launches and sustained customer confidence in its portfolio.
According to Kunal Behl, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd., May turned out to be a rewarding month for the company despite initial market apprehensions. He highlighted that the launch of the new Honda City played a crucial role in enhancing the brand’s market presence, while the India premiere of the Honda ZR-V generated considerable excitement among SUV enthusiasts and showcased Honda’s global SUV capabilities.
The company also benefited from steady demand for established products such as the Honda Amaze and Honda Elevate. Together, these models helped Honda maintain positive momentum and deliver a strong sales performance during the month.
The ZR-V’s arrival has particularly attracted attention as Honda looks to strengthen its SUV credentials in a market increasingly dominated by high-riding vehicles. Meanwhile, the refreshed City continues to prove that sedans still have a loyal fan base in India, even in an era where SUVs seem to occupy every second parking slot.
Exports also played an important role in Honda’s growth story, rising to 2,742 units in May 2026 from 2,035 units in the corresponding month last year. The increase underlines the company’s growing contribution from overseas markets and reinforces India’s role as an important manufacturing and export hub for Honda.
With a refreshed lineup, rising export volumes, and growing excitement around upcoming products, Honda Cars India appears to be entering the second half of 2026 with confidence. And if the numbers from May are any indication, Honda’s engines are not just running smoothly—they seem to have found an extra gear.
