Gurugram: Nissan Motor India appears to have found a higher gear. The Japanese automaker has reported a remarkable 118% year-on-year growth in domestic wholesales for May 2026, marking its third consecutive month of domestic sales growth and signaling renewed momentum in one of the world’s most competitive car markets.
The company recorded 2,948 domestic wholesale units in May 2026, while exports contributed an additional 5,023 units, taking Nissan India’s total monthly wholesales to 7,971 units.
For a brand that has spent the last few years carefully rebuilding its presence, the latest numbers suggest that Nissan’s strategy is beginning to pay dividends. If sales charts were mountain roads, Nissan seems to have finally found a clear stretch after a long series of hairpins.
Speaking on the performance, Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, said the company’s third straight month of year-on-year domestic growth reflects increasing customer confidence in the brand.
According to Vatsa, the strong market response to the All-New Nissan Gravite, combined with the continued popularity of the Nissan Magnite, including growing demand for its CNG variants, has strengthened Nissan’s confidence in its India growth strategy.
The Magnite continues to serve as Nissan’s volume driver in India, helping the brand maintain a foothold in the fiercely contested compact SUV segment. Since its launch, the SUV has played a crucial role in Nissan’s revival efforts, and its popularity remains an important pillar of the company’s domestic business.
Meanwhile, customer interest has also been building around the newly launched Nissan Gravite, which has added fresh energy to the company’s portfolio. The positive response suggests that Nissan’s product expansion strategy is resonating with Indian buyers looking for value-packed SUVs.
Looking ahead, Nissan is preparing for another significant milestone with the upcoming world premiere of the Nissan Tekton. The new model is expected to further strengthen Nissan’s product lineup and underline the company’s long-term commitment to the Indian market.
Beyond new products, Nissan says it remains focused on expanding its dealership and service network, improving customer accessibility, and enhancing ownership experiences across key markets.
The latest sales performance arrives at a time when India’s passenger vehicle market continues to evolve rapidly, with manufacturers racing to expand their SUV portfolios and strengthen customer engagement. Nissan’s recent growth streak indicates that the company is gradually carving out a stronger position in this crowded landscape.
Whether the momentum continues will depend on how customers respond to upcoming launches such as the Tekton, but for now, Nissan’s sales dashboard is showing more green arrows than warning lights.
