MG Majestor Turns Chennai’s Sandy Shores into Its Playground, Showcasing Hardcore Off-Road Tech

Gurgaon: MG Motor India is clearly not in the mood to keep things conventional. The company’s latest flagship SUV, the MG Majestor, has taken its off-road credentials straight to the beach—quite literally—by gliding across the sandy stretch of Pattipulam along Chennai’s iconic East Coast Road.

In a terrain where most SUVs would start negotiating with gravity (and occasionally regret their life choices), the Majestor powered through loose sand and shifting coastal surfaces with remarkable ease. Thanks to its dedicated Sand Mode, the big SUV maintained composure and traction, turning what could have been a struggle into what looked more like a Sunday cruise by the sea.

At the heart of this beachside bravado is a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine producing a robust 215.5 PS and 478.5 Nm of torque. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the Majestor is available in both 2WD and advanced 4WD configurations—though judging by its beach performance, the 4WD system is clearly the one doing the heavy lifting when the going gets sandy.

But the real headline grabber here is its first-in-segment triple differential lock setup—front, rear, and centre. Add to that an advanced 4WD system with 10 terrain modes and a Crawl Control Mode, and the Majestor begins to sound less like an SUV and more like a highly trained off-road specialist. Whether it’s sand, slush, or steep inclines, this machine seems engineered to keep moving forward—no drama, no digging.

Practicality hasn’t been left behind either. With 219 mm ground clearance and an impressive 810 mm water wading capacity, the Majestor is built to tackle India’s diverse terrains—from coastal adventures to monsoon-hit roads—with equal confidence.

Interestingly, while many off-roaders focus purely on mechanical muscle, MG has blended ruggedness with intelligence. The Majestor comes equipped with Level 2 ADAS, making it India’s first D+ segment SUV to combine serious off-road capability with advanced driver assistance systems. It’s essentially a vehicle that can climb a dune and then politely assist you with lane keeping on the highway back home.

Adding to the ownership appeal is MG’s “Complete Peace of Mind” programme, which includes a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty, 5-year roadside assistance with no distance cap, and 5 labour-free services. Early adopters—specifically the first 3,000 customers—can pre-reserve the Majestor for ₹41,000 and avail these benefits.

With this beach run, the MG Majestor isn’t just making a statement—it’s leaving tyre marks on the sand to prove it. And if this is how it handles the coast, the mountains might want to start preparing next.
