MG Windsor Goes Beyond Metros: 70% Buyers Come from India’s Tier-2 and Tier-3 Cities

Because apparently, EV dreams don’t need a metro pin code anymore.

Gurugram: In a clear sign that India’s electric revolution is no longer confined to traffic-clogged metros, JSW MG Motor India has revealed that a whopping 70% of the total sales of the MG Windsor are coming from non-metro cities. Yes, the EV wave has officially moved beyond Delhi traffic jams and Mumbai’s parking struggles into the wider, aspirational India.

With nearly 65,000 units sold to date, the MG Windsor has quietly become a poster child of how electric mobility is finding its footing in smaller cities—where practicality meets curiosity, and increasingly, affordability meets aspiration.

While metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai contributed 30% of sales, it’s the rest of India that’s doing the heavy lifting. From Tier-2 towns to emerging urban clusters, buyers are embracing EVs not just for environmental reasons, but also for the simple math: lower running costs and fewer visits to fuel stations (which, let’s be honest, no one misses).

What makes the Windsor particularly appealing is its clever “ABC formula”—offering the price of an A-segment car, the road presence of a B-segment vehicle, and the space of a C-segment machine. It’s almost like ordering a small coffee and getting a large—no complaints there.

Positioned as India’s first Intelligent CUV, the MG Windsor blends sedan-like comfort with SUV practicality. Under the hood (or rather, under the floor), it delivers 100 kW (136 PS) of power and 200 Nm of torque, ensuring it’s not just about efficiency but also everyday usability.

Customers can choose between two battery packs: a 38 kWh option offering 332 km range, and a larger 52.9 kWh Pro variant delivering up to 449 km on a single charge. Add to that a lifetime battery warranty for the first owner and a 3-60 assured buyback plan, and MG seems to be addressing the biggest EV concerns—range anxiety and resale value—head-on.

Inside, the Windsor leans heavily into comfort and tech. The ‘Aero Lounge’ seats recline up to 135 degrees, making long drives feel a bit like business class (minus the in-flight meal). Meanwhile, the massive 15.6-inch GrandView touchscreen ensures that the dashboard feels more like a tablet than a traditional console.

On the outside, the futuristic ‘AeroGlide’ design language gives it a distinct identity—because in today’s market, looking electric is almost as important as being electric.

The biggest takeaway? EV adoption in India is no longer a metro-centric experiment. With models like the MG Windsor making a strong case in smaller cities, the country’s electric future might just be powered from beyond the big city limits.

And if this trend continues, the next EV hotspot might not be Bengaluru or Delhi—but somewhere you least expect… maybe even your hometown.
