Chennai: Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, has marked a significant breakthrough in its sustainability roadmap by achieving 100% renewable power usage at its cutting-edge Oragadam production facility—well ahead of its original 2025 target. This milestone reinforces DICV’s commitment to decarbonization and environmental responsibility, as it successfully eliminates Scope 2 emissions from its operations.

With a steadfast focus on climate protection and energy optimization, DICV has been ramping up its renewable energy initiatives since 2018. The company’s dual-pronged approach—combining onsite solar power generation with offsite renewable power procurement—has played a crucial role in realizing this achievement. By transitioning entirely to renewable power sources, DICV has offset 22,970 tons of CO2e emissions, significantly contributing to global climate action.
A Powerful Shift: The Backbone of DICV’s Green Energy Strategy
At the core of this sustainability leap is DICV’s forward-thinking energy infrastructure. A key pillar of its renewable strategy is the installation of a 4,300 kW solar power plant, comprising 15,000 solar panels. This state-of-the-art facility offsets nearly 4,000 tons of CO2e annually, covering 17% of DICV’s renewable power consumption. The remainder is sourced through strategic offsite renewable energy partnerships, ensuring a comprehensive shift to sustainable power.
Satyakam Arya, Managing Director & CEO, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, emphasized the company’s dedication to responsible manufacturing, stating:
“We have made significant strides in positioning DICV as a leader in sustainable manufacturing, and we are proud to achieve 100% renewable power utilization at our Oragadam facility ahead of schedule. This milestone underscores our long-term commitment to decarbonization and environmental stewardship. Since 2018, we have worked towards reducing our carbon footprint by increasing our reliance on renewable energy sources. Today, we have reached 100% renewable power usage for Scope 2 emissions, a feat made possible by forward-looking infrastructure investments and supportive government policies.”
Beyond Renewable Power: DICV’s Holistic Sustainability Vision
DICV’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond renewable energy adoption. The company continues to explore innovative energy efficiency measures, alternative green energy sources, and cutting-edge technologies to further minimize CO2e emissions.
As part of its long-term sustainability mission, DICV is actively working towards industry-leading environmental benchmarks. By integrating advanced green manufacturing practices, the company is setting new standards for sustainable production in India’s commercial vehicle sector.
This achievement not only aligns with India’s clean energy transition goals but also serves as a model for global enterprises seeking to balance industrial growth with environmental responsibility. With a firm commitment to carbon neutrality and sustainable innovation, DICV is steering the commercial vehicle industry toward a cleaner, greener future.
