Porsche and Liter of Light Illuminate India’s Diwali Dreams with Record-Breaking Solar Lamp Display

Mumbai — Porsche, in collaboration with Liter of Light, brought a transformative glow to rural India this Diwali, combining sustainability, empowerment, and tradition. The initiative culminated in a breathtaking light installation at the iconic Gateway of India, setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest display of solar-powered lamps.

The event, held during the Festival of Lights, featured 1,963 hand-crafted lamps symbolizing the birth year of the legendary Porsche 911. These lamps, produced by previously unemployed women in Mumbai, are not just decorative—they’re life-changing. Following the event, they were donated to households in villages across Maharashtra and Gujarat that lack reliable electricity.

A Solar-Powered Solution to Empower Communities

Each lamp was meticulously assembled and painted, reflecting the vibrant hues of the new electric Porsche Macan. Beyond the artistry, the lamps represent a shift toward sustainable energy and safer living conditions. Many of the recipient households previously relied on hazardous lighting solutions like kerosene lamps or coal fires.

“Through this initiative, we’ve empowered women with green skills and brought sustainable light to families who need it the most,” said Illac Diaz, founder and Executive Director of Liter of Light.

Celebrating Diwali with Innovation and Impact

Diwali, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness, served as the perfect backdrop for this impactful project. The Gateway of India’s majestic structure became the canvas for the record-setting display, as the lamps formed a giant Porsche crest.

The installation, which attracted throngs of onlookers, also invited public participation. School students, volunteers, and members of the Rotary Club of Bombay Juhu Beach worked together to arrange the lamps, emphasizing the community-driven nature of the project.

Driving Change with Purpose

The lamps were distributed to rural villages through partnerships with local organizations, including the Rotary Club of Bombay Juhu Beach. Each lamp’s journey from urban craftsmanship to rural homes underscores the initiative’s holistic approach—combining environmental sustainability with economic empowerment.

“This project highlights Porsche’s commitment to creating a lasting impact. By collaborating with Liter of Light, we’ve celebrated Diwali in a way that truly embodies its essence—bringing light and hope to those in need,” said Manolito Vujicic, Brand Director for Porsche India.

Lighting Up the Future

Since its inception in 2013, Liter of Light has illuminated over one million lives annually across more than 30 countries. The organization’s unique model integrates technical knowledge, hyper-local production, and green skills, offering sustainable solutions while empowering communities.

This collaboration with Porsche marks another milestone in Liter of Light’s journey as a global ambassador for UNESCO’s International Day of Light.

As Diwali lights fade, the impact of this initiative shines brighter, illuminating not just homes but also dreams and possibilities.
