Hyundai’s “Rolling Lab” RN24 Debuts, Melding Motorsport Innovation with Future EV Possibilities
SEOUL – Hyundai’s high-performance division, Hyundai N, has unveiled the RN24 at the annual “N Day 2024” event, setting a bold path forward for high-performance electric vehicles. This futuristic “Rolling Lab” prototype combines the power of Ioniq 5 N’s advanced electronics with a rally-inspired, lightweight chassis, hinting at what’s next for the N line.
“Hyundai N is committed to innovation that delivers thrilling, dynamic driving experiences,” stated Manfred Harrer, Executive VP and Head of Genesis and Performance Development Tech Unit. “RN24 exemplifies this vision, pushing boundaries of high-performance EV technology.”
The RN24 integrates Hyundai’s motorsport technology with a compact B-segment chassis, creating a lightweight yet powerful electric car designed for exceptional control and agility. Its dual-motor, 650 PS power system, adapted from the Ioniq 5 N, is housed in a custom-built chassis inspired by Hyundai’s World Rally Championship (WRC) vehicles. Alongside the advanced electronics system, the RN24 features rally-grade suspension, a faster steering setup, and an enhanced battery and motor cooling system, making it a compelling addition to Hyundai’s N “Rolling Lab” series.
Revolutionary Technology and Precision-Driven Performance
Built to showcase next-gen driving technology, the RN24’s advanced systems empower drivers with customizable power distribution, acceleration sensitivity, and regenerative braking controls, all accessible via the steering wheel. The vehicle’s WRC-style chassis and rally-spec dampers, combined with a shorter wheelbase, offer a dynamic, track-ready experience.
Additionally, the RN24 includes Hyundai’s experimental “Rally Mode” torque distribution system, simulating the four-wheel drive control found in Hyundai’s i20 N Rally1. This technology balances the power across all wheels for enhanced stability, a feature likely to influence future N production models.
Futuristic Sound and Design for an Immersive Experience
The RN24 is not only engineered for speed but also for sound. Equipped with an external high-output sound system and designed with a sound-amplifying rear fender, it enhances the aural experience, echoing the bold performance Hyundai N drivers expect. Visually, its exposed roll cage and aerodynamic TCR-inspired spoiler underscore Hyundai’s WRC influence, while 3D-printed gussets enhance the vehicle’s rigidity and reduce weight.
Joon Park, VP of N Brand Management, expressed Hyundai N’s commitment to performance-driven EV technology: “RN24 shows that the future of electric vehicles isn’t just about range and efficiency; it’s about delivering an exhilarating driving experience that defines Hyundai N.”
With the RN24, Hyundai’s N division paves the way for a new era of high-performance EVs that don’t just meet spec sheets but inspire a new level of driving excitement.
