Revolutionary Concept Car Showcases Future of Luxury Electric Travel at Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre
Mercedes-Benz has once again set the benchmark for luxury electric vehicles by unveiling the exceptional Project Maybach Concept Car at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai. Designed by the late Virgil Abloh and Gorden Wagener, this one-of-a-kind electric showcar explores the intersection of nature and luxury in a way that only a Maybach can.
A Tribute to Visionary Design
Project Maybach is the fourth exclusive concept car showcased by Mercedes-Benz in India, following the stunning Vision Maybach 6, AMG GT, and Electric G-Class. This unveiling is particularly poignant as it pays homage to Virgil Abloh, a visionary designer whose collaboration with Gorden Wagener has redefined the boundaries of automotive design.
“Project Maybach is the ultimate luxury collaboration, presenting a vision of future aspirational design, combining exploration with innovation,” said Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India. “This concept showcar underscores our commitment to reinventing sophisticated luxury while preserving Maybach’s exclusivity. It’s a tribute to Virgil Abloh and a testament to his unparalleled creativity.”
A Masterpiece of Design and Functionality
The Project Maybach concept car, with its sandy monotone exterior and robust roll bar, epitomizes high-stakes adventuring while maintaining the essence of a sleek luxury coupé. Key design elements include:
- Utilitarian Aesthetics: The earthy sand tone emphasizes a pure and monolithic style.
- Futuristic Appeal: A sci-fi chrome grille and advanced digital-analogue dashboard integration.
- Luxury Interior: Modular hotel room-inspired cabin with seats that transform into a first-class flatbed, crafted from polished aluminum and ultra-soft sandy leather tanned naturally with coffee shells.
- Innovative Features: Jacquard houndstooth-finish headrests that double as blankets, removable suitcase-style seats, and a roof rack capable of supporting a roof tent.
- Advanced Technology: Solar cells hidden under a transparent hood to enhance range.
Honoring Virgil Abloh’s Legacy
Project Maybach is not only a marvel of design but also a celebration of Virgil Abloh’s innovative spirit. Abloh, an artist, architect, and fashion designer, among many other roles, was known for his unique vision and ability to inspire through his work.
“Mercedes-Benz is devastated by the passing of Virgil Abloh, a visionary and trusted partner,” Iyer added. “By showcasing this collaboration, we celebrate his unique vision and the endless possibilities he created through his unbridled imagination.”
On Display in Mumbai
The Project Maybach concept car will be on display at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre until October 2024, offering visitors a glimpse of the unrestrained imagination and inspirational work of the late Virgil Abloh. This extraordinary vehicle merges the grand proportions of a Gran Turismo with the rugged capabilities of an off-road vehicle, redefining luxury travel.
