Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler Breaks Cover, Targets Sub-₹19.79 Lakh Starting Price

Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has unveiled the production-bound version of its Global Pik Up, which will be sold in India as the Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler and launched by April 2027, with prices set to start below ₹19.79 lakh ex-showroom.

The new pickup, first previewed as a concept in Cape Town, South Africa, in August 2023, will be marketed internationally as the Mahindra Lifestyler. Mahindra is positioning the model in the midsize lifestyle pickup segment, targeting markets including Australia and New Zealand, South Africa, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.

Designed at the Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai and developed at the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai, the pickup uses the company’s next-generation body-on-frame architecture.

For India, the Scorpio Lifestyler will attempt to blend the load-carrying usefulness expected of a pickup with the comfort and equipment buyers increasingly expect from an SUV. In other words, Mahindra wants the load bed to be useful without making the cabin feel like punishment for choosing one.

The company says the vehicle has been developed to global engineering and safety standards, with emphasis on durability, technology, refinement and suitability for both everyday driving and recreational use.

Dr Velusamy R, President, Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, “From the outset, our vision was to create a world-class global pickup that raises the bar for the segment while remaining true to Mahindra’s strengths in authentic capability and value. The Scorpio Lifestyler is a testament to the strong product development capabilities at Mahindra Research Valley (MRV). Built on our advanced next-generation body-on-frame architecture, it has been engineered to deliver the capability, durability, safety and refinement demanded by customers around the world.”

Three versions showcased: Valley, Reef and Trail

Mahindra has displayed the Scorpio Lifestyler in three distinct interpretations — Valley, Reef and Trail — intended to demonstrate different sides of the pickup’s lifestyle and utility positioning.

The Valley Edition, finished in Artemis Grey, is focused on balancing work-oriented practicality with greater comfort and refinement. Mahindra says the colour takes inspiration from the layered shades of expansive estates.

The Reef Edition comes in an Aquareef finish and is aimed more squarely at outdoor and leisure use, with its theme inspired by the changing colours of the ocean.

The Trail Edition, finished in Sahara Beige, adopts a more adventurous character and draws inspiration from sandscapes and off-road exploration.

Pratap Bose, Chief Design and Creative Officer, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, “The Scorpio Lifestyler is inspired by how our customers work, play and explore. Combining bold exterior design, plush interiors and SUV-like comfort with unmistakable Mahindra toughness, it brings style and refinement to every journey. This philosophy is reflected in the three editions showcased today: Valley celebrates purposeful refinement, Reef embodies freedom and exploration, and Trail captures the spirit of boundless adventure. Together, they express our vision of a pickup that celebrates individuality while remaining rooted in capability, authenticity and the freedom to explore without limits.”

Mahindra sees room for lifestyle pickups in India

The Scorpio Lifestyler also represents Mahindra’s effort to develop a pickup intended from the outset for multiple international markets rather than adapting an India-focused model later.

The company says the vehicle has been engineered around six broad priorities: pickup capability and durability, international engineering and safety standards, advanced technology, more sophisticated design and refinement, versatility across work and leisure, and Mahindra’s existing experience with pickups in overseas markets.

Its planned starting price below ₹19.79 lakh could also make the Scorpio Lifestyler an important test of how much appetite exists in India for vehicles that sit somewhere between a conventional SUV and a utility-focused pickup.

Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, “The Scorpio Lifestyler represents the convergence of global engineering and evolving customer aspirations. As we prepare for its India launch, we see a growing appetite among customers for a vehicle that delivers authentic capability without compromising on technology, safety, comfort or everyday usability. We are investing in building awareness, strengthening our network and creating the right ownership experience for this category. We believe the Scorpio Lifestyler has the potential to redefine expectations and shape the future of the pickup segment in India.”

The India launch will therefore be about more than adding another Scorpio-badged model to Mahindra’s line-up. It will test whether lifestyle pickups can move beyond their relatively specialised position and attract buyers who want SUV-like comfort during the week, serious utility when required and, ideally, enough space in the back for plans that refuse to fit inside a conventional boot.

With the Scorpio Lifestyler due by April 2027 and international markets also firmly in its sights, Mahindra is using the pickup as both a new product category play in India and a broader statement of its global ambitions.
